Permalink Nikki Sixx, explained - Jon and the Nightriders in Blender

New Topic

Some of you may remember that there have been two Nikki Sixxes, the yutz in Motley Crue, and the bassist for Jon and the Nightriders. Well, in the Sept 2007 issue of Blender, there's an interview with the Crue Sixx, who is asked "How did you pick the name Nikki Sixx - and is it true there used to be two of you?" His answer:

"I had a band called London and everything was about Britian, and I was Nikki London. And I was like, "I wanna change my name: I don't want to be Nikki London of London." I used to date this girl, Angie Saxon. I was going through her scrapbook and I saw a guy that she used to date named Niki Syxx in a band called Jon & the Nightriders. So I stole his name. I just liked it."

So, there it is, straight from the horse's, er, mouth.

"It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea

Not true. In fact, he came somewhat clean about it in the MC book. Jeff, or Nikki Syxx, from Jon & the Nightriders, got the name from a song written by a Riverside Ca. band named "Numbers". They were a Tubes type band with a heavy theatrical approach. They had a song about {I think} a detective named Nikki Syxx. Jeff like the name, and used it while fronting a band called Squeeze - not UK, this was long before- it was '77. Jeff was a glam rock guy who pretty much ruled OC before the So. Cal punk thing hit. The guy from MC took the name from him.
The End.

Dave,

The yutz in MC is definitely admitting to stealing the name from Jeff. I'm surprised that he would admit to stealing it, plus, I find the concept of naming yourself after your girlfriend's ex odd, to put it mildly.

Cool to find out how Jeff came up with it. Now how did The Numbers come up with Nikki Syxx?

Mel

You might want to research this, but, the band "Numbers" song about Nikki Syxx may have had a link to a Marylin Monroe movie charactor? Not sure.

Digging this up because I was just looking at the back of Surf Beat '80. This is the weirdest confusing piece of trivia I've come across in a while.

Storm Surge of Reverb: Surf & Instro Radio

A few years ago, after I played some Surf Beat '80 for an old bassist friend of mine, he said, "Can't be. That guy plays too good to be the same Nikki Sixx." Thanks for reminding me of that.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Speaking for myself, I'd be happy to play bass as good as that other Nikki Sixx. Smile

Then there's Rikki Styxx aka Rikki Watson.
Another Jon & the Nightriders connection!
