Permalink SurfyBear Compact to Compact Deluxe. What changed?

New Topic

I recall that the SG101 consensus on the SurfyBear was Classic > Metal > Compact. With the release of the Compact Deluxe it seems the order has changed, but I am not clear on what changed with the reverb pan in the Compact. Any forum users have an idea on what was changed or was it only the obvious addition of the tremolo and the circuit routing?

Dirtysocks, the obvious big difference is the addition of the Surfy Trem. The other is option of connecting an external reverb pan and assigning it independently to one of the mixer controls The reverb pan in the unit is the original Accutronics® type-8 spring reverb pan.

Another thing is the deluxe will work with 9-12 volt with any polarity. Doesn't sound like a big deal, but the original was a pain in the backside requiring 12 volts plus an addition adapter to change polarity from normal! Main reason I will probably be buying a Deluxe. But also having the Surfy Trem built in is pretty darn cool, mostly in the same sized package.
They did a good job designing this one.

Hey Paddy O Surfer, welcome to SG101! When you have a moment, go to the “Shallow End” forum, and the “INTRODUCTIONS! New Members Post Here” thread and tell us more about yourself and your involvement with surf music.

Just an FYI, all current Surfy industries reverbs operate off of either polarity. That was one reason I was put off from the originals as well, but surfy industries told me the current requirements are just 12v / 500ma /either polarity. A little easier to power on a pedalboard.

I understood the other features added over the original, but this is what I was looking for confirmation of. Thank you, RobbieReverb.

The reverb itself is unchanged, so if one already has a classic it's only an upgrade if the integrated tremolo and patching options are desired.

Here’s a great, in-depth analysis of it. This is the video that sold me on it: https://youtu.be/eTx5zf05fgg?si=5YxPTcKaVZkp1Azt
