Looks like I may be joining a band that only has a tentative name at the moment, so I'm looking for suggestions. It's not a surf band, more surf-adjacent, playing psychobilly/rockabilly with some instrumentals like Link Wray stuff and I may convince them to play some of my surf-type instrumentals.
In general, I'm a rather creative type when it comes to art and music, but I often bang my head against the wall when it comes to thinking up good band names. The ones I think of that I really like are always already taken (e.g., The Irregulators, The Wilhelm Scream). So I'm open to ideas to suggest to the guys in the band - let me know yours (as long as you aren't planning to use it yourself or charge royalties)!

Most bands try to find the single word to identify their band...the moment you add another word, and then a third word, you are significantly reducing the likelihood of another band having the same name. Tremolo Beer Gut is a fine example.

I have a list of band names that come to my mind from tome to time but I think the name of your band should mean something for you and your bandmates, not for me…

I ascertain that you are in North Carolina, from your introductory post. Considering that this is a Psychobilly band, how about the Mayberry Maniacs? If you want more of a Surf angle, The Outer Banks Oddities might work. But this ignores two absolute gifts in place names; how about the Kill Devil Hillbillies or the Wrightsville Beachbums?

here’s a couple from my long list of band names I’ll never get around to using that might be suitable for a psychobilly band:

How about, “The Plugins”.
Or, “High tide”.
Or if you want to be real surfy sounding. How about “Squashtail” ?

This is something I struggle with as well - especially as a landlocked surf guitarist in a mountain valley in Northern Canada. Do I use my name in a Dick Dale kind of way? Patrick sounds about as Irish as can be and far from surf, but things like Paddy and the Peak come to mind. I think I'd prefer something much more classic though. My neighbourhood is a place in Whitehorse called Takhini which has a Hawaiian sound to it, even though it's an Indigenous word meaning King Salmon. Actually... that's not bad. Better than Takhini Treat. If I was a woman, I'd call myself the Takhini Wahine. But, I am not. So that does not work. I was considering Moonrider for a while. There was a band called The Moon Riders in the 60's, but I think it's far enough removed that it would be ok. I like the idea of it being somewhat of the opposite of the Dawn Patrol - the last ride of the day.

Use that name and you’ll be a millionaire by sundown.
Yeah, it’s hard to find good Surf names inland. I once came up with a concept for s Surf album, based on places in and around Denver, Colorado, where lakes are scarce and the river that runs through the center of town is frequently only a few inches deep. Then I moved here ….

That’s actually what I have done. The song titles are places around the Yukon. Whistlebendin’, Takhini Breeze, Shipyards Espionage, Tombstone, Arkell Swell…

You just gave me a great song title idea: Hangin’ Ten in Tombstone. We have a Tombstone in my neighborhood, too.

Welcome @Paddy_O_Surfer. Any name that I could come up with would sound a bit too "tourist-y" or cliché coming from a Vancouverite...maybe a cool Indigenous word or short phrase? Maybe if the titles of your tunes play into the whole theme to honour your surroundings, your artist name doesn't have to be too obvious that is about surf or that you are in the YT...and that is coming from someone who agreed to call their own band "Surf Shakers"...but, hey, we were stuck for a name and we had a gig coming up!

Hello Lorne! I’ll check out your band. I get to Vancouver quite often, and I play bass for a Vancouver-based garage rock band called The Top Drawers too.
