Permalink Showman grille cloth question

New Topic

Is the piece of wood that my grille cloth stapled to glued in? '64 single Showman. I want to restretch the bad cloth instalation.

I can't play this thing! It's got no whammy bar!

There are screws (two on each side) accessed from the back of the amp. You’ll need to remove the back panel first, have a long Phillips screwdriver and possibly remove a tube or two to gain access. It shouldn’t be glued in - that would suck it if it was!

I would wear electrical gloves while doing this.

MooreLoud.com - A tribute to Dick Dale. New EP Louder Than Life available on bandcamp and website. Taking guitar lessons from Jimmy Dale.

Another thing you could try, though I have not done it myself, is use a heat gun on the loose grille cloth. I have heard from reputable sources that it shrinks up when heated. Obviously you’d want to be careful doing this and try at lowest possible temps first. Like maybe experiment with a hairdryer first or with a remnant not on your actual Showman.

Here’s some good info: https://www.tdpri.com/threads/proper-way-to-install-grill-cloth-fender.170095/
