Nah, it's the old saying, everything in moderation, he just needs another musical 'outlet' as well as surf. Here's a few suggestions, feel free to add some more... Join a Rap band. |

I've only played for a crowd once, at a show that my musical academy organized. But now I just joined my school's musical... -can anyone help me with this one? I don't know how to say this in English, it's not a band, and it's not an orchestra, it's more like a school musical___- so I'm going to be playing at other schools which is good but it also has a downside (I'm going to be playing songs from bands I really dislike, but I'll hopefully learn some new stuff) Also, me and my band went to our local bowling place and asked the manager if she would let us play there, and surprisingly she agreed. Good for you Mr. Green. Playing in front of an audience is invaluable experience that helps take you to the next level of musicianship. I would call your orchestra simply a 'group' and leave it at that. You can elaborate by describing the instrument lineup.

The group is conformed out of several students, there are like 6 or 7 guitarists, a couple of bassists, two or three drummers and a whole bunch of 15-17 year old girls who like to sing About kingwahaii50's translation request, I don't exactly know what he means but I have a slight idea. Yeah you're right wooza, the best name for my school's musical group would be ensemble, in Spanish that would be "ensamble". And Los Torperros (the guys I'll be playing with at the bowling place, not the ensemble) could be called an almost-amateur band I guess. it's not completely surf, but i just joined a rockabilly group. i play as much surf as i can get away with. the other guitarist drenches his chords in reverb, so we walk a thin line at times. i'm just happy to be playing out again after nearly 4 years. |

Don't shoot me, but I play in a Country band We play around 100 shows a year. Less this year, since we have all but ceased to play dive bars. Last year we took every gig we could get our hands on, which included some smokeholes. People look at me funny, playing Jazzmasters and Jags in a Country band. The only Surfy sounding song I get to play is "Runaway." There is one Spaghetti Western sounding tune that I get to crank the reverb and tremolo on, and do some trem wiggles. |

The closest I get to country in any of the bands I work with is the Presley Sun Sessions stuff, but I play it for fun at home quite often. I find the Jag a disaster for it, because every time I 'Chicken Pick' I pluck the strings out of the slots - even with a Mustang bridge. The actual sound isn't bad for country, but I find a Tele much better because of the attack. Probably one siituation where a Buzz-stop is really helpful. No Buzz Stop, and stock Jazzmaster/Jag bridges. I do a lot of chicken pickin,' but I've never had a prob with string jump. I hate Buzz stops, because they ruin the feel of the trem, but if it works for you, go for it! My Jazzmaster is actually my favorite guitar for all kinds of music I play. With a Boost pedal, I can get that Tele attack pretty well. I love my Teles, but they don't seem as versatile.

plus there's the teacher who plays the keyboards, the real challenge for the teacher will be to arrange all of us so we can play a decent live show. Of course not everyone will be playing, I guess they're only going to choose the intermediate-advanced players for the live presentations.
