I will be there! It's a 5 hour drive from my town of Wichita Falls, Texas but hey! Twenty bands over two days without having to fly to Italy or California is a definite win!

There will be. I haven't had a chance to process them yet, nor has KOOP's Darkside Daddy, but I'll link both here. I did get one, however, enclosed here. This is me with Los SuperAvengers.
Cheers!

One fan posted his review in this Facebook group
Just got home from SxSE. Good time, great venue with awesome staff who will do any and everything they can to make sure you have a good time. Food and Drinks were outstanding. If anything, I would cut back on the number of bands that played. 20 bands turn into an endurance contest. I've been to the 24 Hours of Daytona. This felt similar. Also, the term "Surf" can be painted with a VERY broad and multi colored brush. That said, I felt a few bands fell well outside this all-encompassing definition.
A few standout performances? In no particular order..... The Del Vipers delivered a great set, although it was very short. The Boss Jaguars delivered what was probably the closest thing to "traditional " surf. Very good setlist and delivery. King Pelican + Chris Barfield had a very polished set. He's such a great addition to an already great band. The Frigidaires had the whole crowd up and moving!! We saw them Friday night at a small bar in San Antoino and while they were good there..... up on the big stage with a big P/A behind them is where they truly shine. The "3 Guitar Attack" is hard to pull off without things getting muddy or toes getting stepped on. The Frigidaires pull it off wonderfully, trading Lead and Rhythm duties between all 3 guitar's seamlessly, while the Bass and Drums never miss a beat. Go see them, any chance you can!!!
The Desert Undertones had the misfortune of having their #1 guitar amp expire right after switching it on, and the replacement amp did not deliver the set they are capable of. Los Angles-based The Meteoroids also had some issues delivering the signature sound and performance they are known for, with what equipment they had available to them on site, after flying in with what they could bring on the plane.
Maybe the biggest surprize of the event was the set delivered by Austin's The Baffles. After a 4 YEAR hiatus, they reformed this last week and with only a few practices under their belts, they blew off the cobwebs like they never existed and closed out the show with one of the tightest and best delivered sets of the weekend. Total Pro's!!! Well done Dave Irish and company. Thank you to all the bands for coming out......

Howdy y'all,
The venue was very happy with us and already want to plan to do it again there next year. This was a new venue, but everybody (bands, customers, vendors, etc) told me it was great. For my experience, they were very pleasant to work with. The plan is already to do the fest Fri-Sun next year so Sat is not such a long day.
I tried to provide some diversity in the show. If all the acts were traditional Surf Rock instrumental bands, it would get very monotonous, especially for the general public, who are not nearly as hard core as you all are. To that end, we had, in addition to the aforementioned: Pop / Garage Surf, Surf-Metal, Avant-Surf, and Prog-Surf (The Baffles, who presented an amazing mash up of two Laika & The Cosmonauts tunes). Still, we can't please everyone, but everyone I talked to had a great time and enjoyed great music.
Also of note was an amazing version of Link Wray's Rumble performed by 3 Balls Of Fire with Chris Harrison of The Boss Jaguars and Ernest Hernandez III of King Pelican joining them on guitars. It was truly magical!
Anyway, here's some more photos, taken by KOOP's Darkside Daddy. Enjoy!
