How do you collect your music?

I initially started out with listening on Pandora ,Rhapsody and Spotify then when i had extra cash started to buy used CDs….

Now I’ve been going after mainly Vinyl as there is something more romantic about it…
Plus you can discover really rare and obscure stuff that never made it to cd , especially off of places like Discogs…

At record stores or from bands at shows.

Ive been done with vinyl for decades. I buy a lot of CD's, and if something is not issued on CD, I buy the download. I do not stream, and despise Spotify, largely, but not only, because of their obscenely low royalty rates for the artists. They, and many of the streaming services are making a fortune, while paying the artists almost nothing.

Bob

Umm, Spotify (sorry Bob) cds and other streaming services. A lot of bandcamp downloads for surf music. Then I'll add to my surf Playlist on Spotify. I know first hand how little they pay, and the way they massacred the versions of the Beatles' song they offer really bugs me, but it just has so much easily assessible music and podcasts.

Digital downloads for music I can’t buy locally, CDs for audio quality and affordability, and the occasional vinyl (locally) as the price of a record plus shipping is now often more than double the price of the record. I do think vinyl is starting to eat itself because of price , and most vinyl releases are digital files converted to vinyl. I do admit vinyl is cool to own and release , but most new CDs are a better representation of what was recorded, without the hiss, pop, and “warmth” of vinyl.

Like Bob, most streaming services are pretty much a no go because of the huge artist rip off factor. We have stopped putting our new releases up on Spotify. People can preview our releases on bandcamp.

Art, no worries! I completely understand how convenient, and popular Spotify is. I condemn the corporate entity, Spotify, but not the users. I'm one of those stubborn buttheads, who will stand by my principles, often cutting my nose off, in spite of my face. Smile

Does anyone use Pandora anymore?

I do with a custom station/playlist. I end up listening to a bunch of older Mermen, Aqua Velvets, and a few others that don't get a lot of play on GTF.

I have a lot of music on CDs but have been transitioning to mostly buying music on Bandcamp for new stuff.

Im with you on this, 100%. I have CDs for almost everything, or I go to Bandcamp for some items. I like having physical media. I have a little bit of vinyl, some that I’ve had for years, and a handful of albums that never made it to CD, which I was able to buy as NOS vinyl and ripped to digital format on a USB turntable.

When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar.

No streaming. LPs, CDs and some digital downloads.

Project: MAYHEM by Hypersonic Secret now available!

I try to buy CD's and digital downloads when available. I still listen to Spotify, so even if the artist isn't getting much a return on it, at least they got my CD purchase and whatever recurring revenue (however small it may be) on Spotify.
