Permalink Sire Larry Carlton J5!

New Topic

I just discovered that the Sire Larry Carlton line has a Jazzmaster style guitar, the J5.

I also just learned that Larry originally played guitar with Eddie Bertrand in Eddie and The Showmen!

The best part is that it’s only 600 and has gotten great reviews thus far….

seems like a no brainer …!

From the demos I'm listening to right now, this really doesn't sound like a Jazzmaster. Their pickups seem to be different enough from Fender's design that they make the guitar sound like something else. Dunno what but not a JM.

It's apparently a really good guitar but I'd recommend getting a real one, even if it's a Squier. Something used on craigslist?

This is the sound you want. Flatwounds and the middle position. I can't say with absolute certainty that this is what's on this recording but my Jazzmaster with flats on the middle position sounds just like it. This whole album, actually. It's a glorious sound.

Cool tune, thanks Redfeather!

Hey WO84, another option is that you can get the Sire guitar and just throw some real Fender JM pickups into it, if you don't like the stock pickups. The guitar itself might be a better build than a Squire.
