Just asking our Los Angeles area members to check in to make sure everyone is doing okay in the midst of these wildfires. If anyone needs help, perhaps another member is close who can offer some.

Been on my mind a lot too, thanks for posting it, Patrick. Unbelievable, just unbelievable devastation, and at the moment, it still feels like the end isn’t in reach right now. —Fady El Mirage @ ReverbNation |

It's horrific. I'm in Redondo Beach and we're 25 miles away, but it's heartbreaking seeing friends lose their homes. Stay safe. App.watchduty.org is the best realtime tracker to let you know if you need to go. If you need to evacuate, go earlier than you think. People are more important than stuff. —'65 Fender Tremolux, '74 Princeton; 77 Vibrolux Reverb; '81 Princeton Reverb |

All, I’ve seen desalination plants in Aruba (essentially an island desert) and Saudi Arabia (a really big desert). Both countries have plenty of water. Their “reservoirs” are the Caribbean and Red Seas, respectively. The “de-sale” plants look no worse than an oil storage facility. That should better the alternatives - the lack of agriculture, fire hazards, and prohibitive habitation by living things like us humans. (We require water in order to live -- a pesky reality). Perhaps for what is an obvious hard lesson to California, some common sense with regard to harnessing its (vast) water supply might finally prevail in its future. Then again, there are those types that just can’t learn from history and are doomed or who will doom future generations to repeat it. J Mo' Last edited: Jan 10, 2025 10:19:13 |

I saw this list of links for ways to help those affected by the fires in LA that Steve Colbert posted on the Late Show: https://linktr.ee/colbertlateshow Does anyone else have links of ways to help? Big shout-out to all the fire fighters working to stop the fires. This is the only surf song that I can think about fire-fighters. Are there more out there? -Darren Last edited: Jan 10, 2025 12:41:37 |

Norm's is not close to the fires, and the Kenneth fire was under control before any damage happened. Joe Bonamassa's Nerdville was close to the Sunset fire, but because that fire was close to hundreds of apartment buildings and the winds had died down, they were able to use water helicopters and hoses to put it mostly out so that it didn't pose a threat to thousands of people. Joe spoke of how he's safe, but events like this put the right things in perspective. —'65 Fender Tremolux, '74 Princeton; 77 Vibrolux Reverb; '81 Princeton Reverb |

Dude - people are losing lives and everything in their homes. Think of them vs. coming up with crackpot theories on what may have helped. This disaster was unheard of. Fire hydrants aren't equipped for this level of catastrophe in this big of an area, let alone several. Add to it that the winds were so strong flights were grounded - attacking the fire from the air is the main tool that is used. —'65 Fender Tremolux, '74 Princeton; 77 Vibrolux Reverb; '81 Princeton Reverb |

Radio Free Bakersfield posted these link on FB on how to help. Some are repeats from the Late Show list. https://www.calfund.org/funds/wildfire-recovery-fund/ I found this too: https://www.redcross.org/local/california/los-angeles/about-us/our-work/california-wildfires-response-january-2025.html Anyone have any more immediate ways to help? Here's an article I found on Watch Duty and how it came to be. First of all, MusiCares is offering $1500 of immediate financial assistance for any musician who's worked in the music business for at least the last 5 years and has been affected by the fires (musicaresrelief@musicares.org). They are also offering $500 food vouchers. Secondly, why not have a benefit surf music concert with all proceeds going to help the relief and recovery effort? SoCal is ground zero for this music. I'm guessing there are many bands that would be willing to donate their time and talents for something like this in a time of great need. —www.johnblair.us Last edited: Jan 10, 2025 13:45:13 |
