I suspect this has been re-tolexed. I've never seen this scheme of grille and tolex from a 1964 Reverb, even though these had so many color scheme possibilities, it's crazy. Brown tolex with gold grille from late 1964? And the faceplate is brown instead of black...Everything else checks out. All components from late 1964 from the 43rd to the 50th week of 1964, making it one of the last pre-CBS tanks made. Comes with original foot switch as well. This thing is clean, but I do have suspicions on the tolex and grille. Comes with original Victoria cover. $1800 shipped CONUS

I've got a '64 and it has the same faceplate and colors and it's original. That's the one that had the three pieces of foam that kinda muted the springs and made a great drip. It also looks just as clean; that very well may be original on yours Matt!

That is really cool! I had my suspicions but after taking it apart, I am more convinced it is original.

Craig Skelly from Little Kahuna bought this gem and it stays in the surf family.

I traded this Reverb unit to Matt along with some other gear. I purchased it from Carter Vintage Music some years back who said this came to them by the original owner along with his early '60s Fender Concert. While they had originally mis-identified it as a '62 Fender Reverb Unit, it came to be determined to be a '64 - if memory serves me correctly, some folks on here let me know that it was a '64 due to the 2 letter stamped code on the tube chart and the newer raised Fender logo instead of the flat Fender logo.

I have never doubted it's authenticity but YMMV. Cool

In any case, glad to see it's off to another surf musician's home. Smile

Thanks Matt, I’m excited to own it and play it, coincidentally Surfysonic, with my 61 Brownface Concert.

That's so awesome, Craig - very full circle! May you enjoy the '64 Reverb Unit with your Concert for many years! Cool
