Hi. My name is Regan. I inherited my late brother's first guitar. He got it new in high school btwn 1982-1985. I believe he removed the Tokai sticker & put a Fender sticker in it's place. But not 100% sure. I just had it restrung & new pickups put in. My brother had removed the old ones & passed away before he could replace them himself. I plan on learning to play surf rock on it to honor & connect with my brother's memory. I was just wondering if anyone on here can help me possibly identify it's year. Thanks! - Regan

The only number on the guitar is an engraved number on the back of the neck plate. Here is a pic

Lastly i believe my brother once said it was a Tokai. He couldn’t afford a Fender in high school & i believe he replaced the Tokai sticker with a Fender sticker… but I’m not 100% sure. Thanks for any help or advice.

-This page points to 1985 based on serial number: https://vintagejapanguitars.com/tokai-serial-en/
It also points to that guitar being a replica of 1958-1962 strats, which would be appropriate for a surf guitar.

Also, it seems obvious that the headstock is not the same shape as on those Tokai guitars - they appeared to be close copies of vintage Fenders, but with the difference of a slightly different headstock shape.
And I will give you the benefit of the doubt and hope you are not trolling us here or otherwise putting us on, because it looks much like a vintage Fender. If you want more info from people here, take more pictures, and in particular, take off the neck and show us a picture of any stamps on the end.
