hey tim, as a backup here are some outside pics regarding the early finishes on the Los Straits G4.. metallic silver base coat with a small silver flake sprayed on top then cleared. My sons los strait bass is a more recent one and its flake is a little more intense. Either way, once in directed light, it gots bling.

It's hard to quantify how great the super early ones are - lightweight, responsive, jangly, sparkly and just plain fun! Most of mine are mid-run, I have one very early one that is just blast to play, the neck profile is mostly different, I need to go find a neck profile chart to compare.

Bango Rilla!
Great post thank you. I hafta agree with you that since the neck and fingerboard are where you "meet" the guitar, neck profile means a lot!
I had an early one since 2005 that I recently sold (mistake.... which is why I am looking on this forum now), and I felt the neck was a pretty slim profile.
I currently have one of the new (2024) gold Los Straitjackets Galaxie IV models and while the neck profile is not what I would call chunky, it has a bit more fullness to it. Also on this new one the back of the neck is painted to match the gold sparkle as well, so that has a different feel from the earlier finish. Tones are a little different also, possibly in part due to meatier neck. It has a bit of a different character from the earlier one I had but is also an amazing player in appearance, build quality and range of tones.
Either way, I'm a loyal DiPinto player and just love the Galaxies in particular. There are a number of seriously cool engineering features (headstock break angle, a trem that actually stays in tune, compliment of 4 pickups etc that no one else is doing) but also the quirky design touches of a retro space age looking FUN instrument.

Looked at the charts and eyeballd some of my Galaxies - my earliest (2000) has what I would classify as "C" profile neck. My mid years ('04, '07, '12, '15 + some) have a thinner (I think) "D" flatter profile neck. I'm partial to unpainted necks, painted neck does impart a different feel, but likely similar "D" shape.
I'm only an ape, so if you goobered out on neck profiles like I did and feel something different, then pitch in!

As to not further disrail the thread, you can't go wrong with Tavo's guitar, he's a good ape.
If you're really strict about a DiPinto being bone stock and unmodified, it's pretty easy to get them back that way.
This gorilla has too many Galaxies as it is.

@Bango Rilla,
Just a circle back with you. Thank you for the solid recommendation on the Los Straitjackets Galaxie IV. I did buy Tavo's guitar (TVtheWiredTurtle) on this forum.
What's not to love here?
Best to you,
Tim
