Permalink New Fender Pano-Verb amp - so, so expensive! but so cool, too

New Topic

Heard of this yet? I didn't stumble across it, somebody sent me a link.

Very cool amp. It would have to be at 61 pounds and $2,999. Has both a 15" and a 10" speaker in it, with tube reverb and harmonic tremolo. The reverb has both treble & bass tone controls, as well as the ability to run it just through the 10" speaker, not to mention mix & dwell controls too.

Pretty cool combination of Fender amps and some neat one-off features - split v. full reverb (one v. both speakers), separate treble & bass 'tone' knobs for the reverb, mono & stereo tremolo options, and a 'drive' knob on the amp. Made here in the US of A too.

I guess don't get too excited to spend your 3-Grand... already saying "Sold out" on fender.com. Brace for outrageous secondary market in 3, 2, 1.... Whatever

And a nice video of Jack talking about it if you're curious (wow! 4-5 years in the making):

I know the reverb is 6G15 but since it's not outboard would it even be drippy enough? I guess it depends where the reverb is...

Also, the color is hideous.

If I had $3000 to spend on an amp, I'd probably be looking for something vintage!

I would love to get my ape-paws on one just to check it out! Super intrigued!

That amp looks and sounds killer! The tremolo blew me away.

Interesting to be assured. I’d love to test play one.

My guess would be dealers got some of them, so there's hope for folks willing to pay full retail over flipped/gouged "used" prices. For example, on Sweetwater, it looks like they're in pre-order status, so maybe Fender's sold out notifier just means you can't buy one directly from them ... though usually they put in a link to connect with dealers, or to be alerted when available rather than just "sold out" so I'm just guessing.

It’s an interesting design, and I think it has some real possibilities for Surf. It’s pretty powerful, but that could be a good thing if you are playing large or outdoor venues and not mic’d through a PA.

IMHO, for most players, this is overkill. 70 watts is a lot of power, even the 20 watt 6V6 power amp is powerful enough for most club gigs I’ve played. If I’m understanding the concept of this amp correctly, the 6L6 side powers the larger speaker and the 6V6 side powers the smaller speaker and I would assume that the 6V6 side would break up earlier. While I can see a use case for this, that sort of action would only emerge at high volumes.

The biggest amp I currently use is a 40 Watt boutique amp based upon the AB 763 circuit. Think of a Pro Reverb, but with a single 12” speaker and it weighs 34 pounds. I use this only for outdoor gigs, and since getting a new, more powerful PA, I probably will just use a smaller amp, from now on.

I think the out-of-stock means they just havn't hit the market yet. My gut feeling is Fender wants a hit with these and will meet demand if they sell like gangbusters. If they really did spend 4-5 years on R&D and partnered with Jack White (ie paid him) then I don't think they're going the super exclusive route, not in this economy.

I asked my local shop about and they said they had only ordered one and it already sold.

Is that a 6g16 or AA763 circuit? Sigh, probably the AA763. Man I would freak out and buy this if it was a 6g16.

It's so freakin weird how Fender almost never reissues a brown circuit. The Chris Stapleton Princeton is the only one I can think of. Are there others?

They did the 6G16 back in the ‘90s, but that and the Stapleton are about it, to the best of my knowledge. The 6G16 is a great amp, but bias varying tremolo with 6L6s can cause short power tube life. I think that’s why it only lasted a short time in the product line. The 6G16 Vibroverb is a dream amp for me, but pretty rare. I’ve seen the RIs, but even they are rare.
