I used to completely suck at skating while in the snowboarding off-season. Gave up most "aggressive" sports ages ago but I took up longboarding which is much more my speed. I don't dance or bomb huge hills, but I just like cruising around smooth streets and maybe the occasional slight incline. It's kind of nice to put a playlist on the headphones and just bop around for awhile.
I've still ended up eating it a few times either catching my foot on a wheel while pushing or one time I wasn't paying attention and rolled over a rubber divider. Ended up getting the wind knocked out of me both times. Is it just me or is concrete a lot harder these days?

It’s not just you, they definitely make the concrete harder now.

We don't bounce anymore either. I used to be able to run it out, but not at this age. For some reason I can't give it up. I love having a board under my feet and rolling around.

Small claim to fame - they used my picture in the poster for Hal Jepsen's extreme sports documentary "Go For It"
They stole it from skateboarder magazine and never paid the photographer. He sued but the judge ruled it was an artist's rendering. How lame is that?

A very classic pool shot Bill! For some reason we never brought any cameras when we skated. Only memories now.

I grew up in West Covina, moved to Badlands area in ‘86. I was mainly into banks and ditches; didn’t get into street until the mid 90’s. No flip tricks, just big ollies and board slides.
These days I have a pretty decent collection of older decks. Dressen, Slasher, Roskopp Face, etc. I have kids so I don’t get out as much, but still push around every now and then. I’m in Rancho Cucamonga and found a couple “old man ditches”. Not too crazy, but still fun to ride (and bust-proof).

Skating was pretty much my life as a teenager. When I met my wife I could still do inverts and get decent air. I kept at it to a degree, but sometime in my early 30's I got an awful inner ear infection, and it did something to my balance... I still keep a deck and will do some light carving
I agree they're making concrete harder these days...

I think the skateboarding community and surfing community share a lot of common interests including some of the music they like. I hear a lot of vintage surf and surf-inspired soundtracks on X-Games "video parts".
