Permalink Chicha for Danny

Our NJ band Chachaboom! has recently added some chicha instrumentals to our setlist. My thanks to Danny Snyder for turning me on to this music, which has become somewhat of an obsession.
Dave

Fuckin' A that's awesome Dave! Keep it up, tons of great tunes out there. One suggestion - do your drummer a favor and try to wrangle someone to play the güiro along with you. Thumbs Up

That's a great idea Danny, thanks brother!

Way cool!! Nice work guys Thumbs Up

Danny & the boys getting it together with Combo Tezeta, getting exposure to that here was a big bump for my dive into Chicha too. Unknowingly to me at the time, The Phantom Four doing Sonido Amazonico on Morgana was maybe my first exposure via this scene (then, I thought it was just the exotic imagination of Frank & Co coming up with that one!), but yeah, Danny's project really opened my eyes. My ears and soul are much better off for it!

Anyhow, keep up the inspiration and grooves - I love it!

Thanks Fady! Our entry into the world of cumbia was when Gabriel Lopez of the Mexican surf band Twin Tones formed Sonido Gallo Negro and released their first album (see video below) in 2011. It opened up a whole world for us, and frankly it pointed the way for us to leverage our skills honed playing in surf bands to play in a more rhythmically varied and potentially more listener accessible style of music.

It's been a long road but it's finally paying off for us. We're booked to play one of the largest music festivals in San Francisco this fall, and were recently chosen as finalists in this year's NPR Tiny Desk Concert Contest.

Thanks Fady and congratulations Danny!

Dave

That first tune is killer! Great tone, and cool vibe all the way throughout. Great job, guys.

MooreLoud.com - A tribute to Dick Dale. EP Louder Than Life coming out soon!

thanks Jason!

Hey Danny, congratulations on the NPR Tiny Desk finalist result! Would you consider posting your Tiny Desk video submission here? I'm sure we would love to hear it.

Patrick

WOAH! #MINDBLOWN I had no idea Sonido Gallo Negro was born from a Surf Guitar guy! Absolutely love that band.

And CONGRATS on the developments for your band - super cool!! Cheers

thanks Patrick , We were one of 20 acts chosen out of 7000 submissions. Here it is… this is neither Cumbia or instrumental, but it’s pretty cool if you ask me.

That is FAN-F#%KING-TASTIC!!!

I mean, I miss the TomorrowMen and the Deadbeats, but it is awesome to see bits of each come together to for this incredible new thing (not new as recent, just 'from' the former old instantiations, of course).

Is there some sort of popularity contest / listener voting we can get behind for NPR?

Fady

WOW, now that's how it's done. Thanks for sharing, Danny. I hope you guys come to NYC so I can catch you live. FAN-F#%KING-TASTIC is right.

Dave

Thank you guys. The NPR contest is over, they chose the winner at the same time they announced us. we would love to make it out to the East Coast one day. We do have a booker who has booked other bands, so it’s in the realm of possibility. Of course, my real impetus would be to get some decent East Coast Jewish deli

Love the clips. That’s a nice step into a Surf adjacent area. I really like that it works so well with three pieces. An open, but certainly not empty, sound.

oh, it's a plan, Danny. We'll hit Katz', daven with the chavurah, and grab a bagel with a shmear Wink

thanks, Synchro! we are unintentionally a three-piece, but we're making it work!
