The Cosmic Wrays - Blast On, Blast Off (Self-Released)
The quartet known as The Cosmic Wrays delivers a payload of “Sci-Fi Surf” that’s sure to ignite your engines. “Codename: Longboard” starts the mission and sets the stage for fun and excitement. As the flight path progresses, we get to “Space Walk.” Grab your saddle shoes (or moon boots) as this is a catchy and danceable number. The title track, “Blast On, Blast Off!” lives up to its name as the second-stage rocket is in full effect. There may be “No Zipline on Venus,” but you’ll be too busy boppin’ your head and tappin’ your toes on the dance floor to even notice. Now, that we’re in Low Earth Orbit, “The Cosmic Peril” gives us a prime example of what a movie soundtrack should sound like. If you need things to slow down so that you can enjoy the view, “Sea of Tranquility” arrives just in time. For the cosmic cowboy in you, “Roswell Roundup” offers the Spaghetti Western you’d need to saddle up a fuselage for lift-off.
These cosmic composers draw from many musical wells and refuse to be confined to one genre. Nevertheless, their sound is delivered in a cohesive vessel. You’re not listening to an amalgam of influences thrown together in the vain hope that something will stick. No, you’re listening to some talented musicians who know how to write and play precisely and with passion. Whether you like solid or liquid rocket fuel, you’ll find something that you enjoy on this album.
The CD is in a cardboard sleeve and has 15 songs with an impressive runtime of 58 minutes. It was produced a in limited quantity of 500 and is available, along with their anthology, at The Cosmic Wrays BC
