Cool fady. I like Surfer's Slide. His signature lickity-quickity skippy pull-offs are present there. Similar licks found in Haulin' Honda and VooDoo Juice. Thanks for the sax heads-up! The others were good, but definitely liked Surfer's Slide the best. The Beechwoods sounded dry and woody, tone-wise, and not as catchy, but a good comparison.

Twisted Evil > Angel

SOme may have known this already, but it was new to me because I always assumed that Eddie Beram was a guitar player, but he's a drummer. So I'll assume that since Podolor was credited with writing, Riot in Thunder Alley, he was also on the recording. That's a great track that has found a slot in my Podolor playlist. Still need to wrangle up some Super Stocks

Twisted Evil > Angel

I don't have the CD w/ liner notes in front of me, but I'm pretty certain THE Sandy Nelson is given drum credits on the Richie Allen and the Pacific Surfers records.

If someone has Mel Spinella's email address, can they send it my way via pm?

Thanks,

Balboa Island - The Diamondheads

We'd never heard this song until Mel suggested we do it, had a blast and would love to see it on the tribute some day!

This is an extended version we remix and remastered. If you listen closely and stick with it to the end, our good friend and musician Mark Harp (who passed away 7 years ago Chistmas Eve) threw in a little tribute to one of Richie's non-surf hits in his bass line.

oh and better late than never, Merry Christmas from Baltimore!

For tomorrow's NSSR show, "Where's the Singer?", I'm filling up the hour with the songs / bands from the ill-fated, but noble attempt at The Richie Podolor Tribute compilation.

For those unfamiliar with the work of Richie Podolor, refer to this thread. He was the man behind the music of Richie Allen & The Pacific Surfers, The Super Stocks, The Hondells, The Ghouls and many more. He went on to produce almost all of Three Dog Night and Steppenwolf's music and was a musician, engineer, producer for multiple other bands.

Around 2006, an effort was made for modern surf bands to cover a Podolor song for the "tribute" project. Lots of bands submitted songs but due to prohibitive costs, the project was scrapped.

Tomorrow (March 30, 2019) I will provide a glimpse of what that compilation might have sounded like.

The show usually comes on at 10am west coast time, but with daylight saving time in effect, the time may vary.

I'll post the playlist in the usual place: https://surfguitar101.com/forums/topic/869

Enjoy.

Great version! Too bad that comp never saw the light of day, but I can imagine the licensing fees would be prohibitive.
