Those are great pictures Tim, but do all of us with small computer screens a favor and keep the pictures small enough to fit the frame without expanding it.

Latest surf project - Now That's What I Call SURF

I will always maintain this POV.

Putting on a show? - Dress the part
Playing for friends - Dress anyway you want.

I got to work - I get dressed for the part.
I go surfing - I wear boardies or a springy.

Thank you and goodnight, Spud has left the building.

Oh, and the Eliminators look good.

I'm in one band that wears masks & T-shirts (the front man includes a cape & wrestling boots) and another that wears street clothes

the former is more of a show-biz experience, with smoke & dancing girls & loud noisy surf-punk, while the latter is more musical

both bands are different, but both work

so, I think there's no hard & fast rule, but you need good creative foundations and enough hooks to keep people interested, whether it's because of the show or because of the music-- but that presumes you're reasonable cool & creative to begin with, and not a bunch of chimpanzees, cause no matter what the chimpanzees wear, they're still gonna be chimpanzees

cough Gwar cough are a band too far...

I submit that no matter what, you are dressing up when you play onstage. Even
if you are wearing your street clothes, they are chosen to suit the job at
hand. You are not going up there in sweatpants and a pajama shirt, right?
You have picked something deliberately.

Band uniforms are just 3-5 guys all deciding to stick together and it adds
another interesting dimension to your look. The human brain loves to look at
things all done up the same way, I think. But forget the psychology of it for
now.

More than all that, it isn't "just all about the music". Live performance is an
audio-visual experience for the audience. Otherwise, remind me to just buy
your CD next time and I'll save some money on those concert tickets.

Hey Danny, I'm not here to ruffle feathers (well, maybe a little Razz ) and I see your point for sure. It's a cultural thing though and I'd happily stick my neck out and say the rule of thumb here is a very different thing to the US or, indeed, Europe (look at Lordi or Turbonegro Razz ). Australian's generally don't get in to the showie stuff.

So, we agree to disagree... it makes the world a colourful place!

What about your own Wiggles? They dress in matching outfits and are probably one of the most successful Aussie bands ever! Very Happy

You can wear a cowboy hat for surf if you're twangy enough

Yup, Junior Brown does a mean surf medley as part of his live show - cowboy hat and all.
