Permalink Speaking of The Ventures, great record store score this weekend!

My wife listens to ...cassettes. Yeah. I know. But it was her birthday, and I wanted to find her a couple of cassettes for her collection. Plus I figured I'd check out the used vinyl while I was there. I scored!

This particular store puts The Ventures in their "Oldies" bin, which I'm betting most folks overlook as it's off to the side in the back. I however do not overlook it, because that's often where I find the best stuff. To wit:

  • Play Guitar With The Ventures, Vol 2 - with the booklet intact. (Well, it's all there, but the inner pages have come loose from the pages glued to the sleeve.)
  • Bobby Vee Meets The Ventures - in excellent condition
  • Go Go with The Ventures - also in excellent condition and it's my favorite type of Ventures album, chock full of pop covers from the day, including not one but TWO songs by The Mamas & the Papas.
  • Where the Act!on Is - in near perfect condition both inside & out

PLUS

  • Astronauts Orbit Kampus (AOK) - the jacket is kinda rough but the vinyl is decent
  • Duane Eddy, $1,000,000 Worth of Twang - another platter in great shape and with DE recently passing, a nostalgic purchase to be sure
  • Go Champs Go! - if you've never heard of The Champs, this group of studio aces are where we got the classic "Tequila!" from. I hadn't heard of them before, but all 5 guys on motorcycles on the front and the word "instrumental" on the back got my attention, then of course I saw "Tequila" and boom, $3 well spent.
  • Dick Dale & his Del-Tones, Surfers' Choice - at $10, the most expensive one in the bunch.

I got all these LPs, plus two cassettes for my wife and another LP for a friend for less than $60. Pretty good score if you ask me! Spending the day listening to my new vinyl Smile
