Permalink Speaker shootout 1962 tremolux 1x12

Hey all
I put together a speaker shootout clip to try and choose the right 12" for my 6g9b tremolux
I have intentionally gone light on the reverb so as to let the raw tone of each speaker be mreo definable

Nice work! That’s a pretty extensive set of speakers and I have to believe process to set up and record consistently. I’ve always known speakers can make a big difference. Your video is yet another proof point in just how much.

It would have been neat to hear a phrase or riff a little more squarely in the ‘surf’ lane (style and tones, including outboard reverb tank), but hey, you’ve already given us a lot on the characteristics for each. With focused and repeated listens, one can come up with their own notes of distinction for each and decide which they prefer in a surf contest (or any for that matter).

That brings me to a suggestion. I don’t know what’s involved, but it would be helpful to have chapters set for each speaker and clip then indexed with links in the description to make it easier to bounce around and hear various back-to-back combinations.

Again, really nice job! Your efforts are genuinely appreciated!

PS - I really like that in the video you don’t divulge what you decided to leave in the cabinet. I appreciate the goal was to let viewers choose what they like best rather than trying to convince or justify your personal flavor preference as the ‘best and right answer’ as there is no one best or right answer. Never the less,I am curious to hear which you did end up with for your own tastes and use…

Thanks , i appreciate the feedback Smile
It was quite a process, and in hindsight i regret not recording some surf licks.
But this gives me something to work on. I feel I’ve got a good format for the test Smile
Would you believe it … I opted to keep the v30 in??!!

the Jensen sounds fantastic for home volume but when I push the little tremolux it’s flubs out a bit. I like to use my Jazzmaster on the bridge pick up and play pretty hard.

Let me see about another clip along the lines of your suggestions.
But yes I think the true character of the speakers are allowed to shine thru with a dry ish mix
