Love 50s/60s anything, but I’d say surf introduced me to its related cousin, exotica/lounge/tiki music. Martin Denny, Les Baxter, Arthur Lyman, Cal Tjader, Esquivel, Henry Mancini, Robert Drasnin, Ted Auletta, Chaino, Webley Edwards, etc. What I love about surf is how many other interests/hobbies it spawned for me. Surf and Martin Denny go together like peas in a pod. |

Obviously lots of great bands have been listed but outside of surf for me it’s the mighty J Mascis and Dino Jr I listen to the most. But I have been getting deep into neo soul as well. |

Jimmy Thackery is one of my favorite guitarists. He made his name with the Nighthawks, throughout the 70's and early 80's, after which he went solo. Thackery is primarily a blues/blues-rock guitarist, but he sometimes ventures into country, rockabilly, soul and some surf/spy oriented tunes. He does a killer version of "Apache" here: Bob |
