Permalink Surf music related places to see in Los Angeles ?

New Topic

Hello everyone,

I will be in LA for a few weeks next month and was wondering if there were anything to see or visit that relates to surf music ? Either to see bands, buy records or places related to music history.

I'll visit a bunch of surf hot spots (my girlfriend is an OC native and grew up surfing / listening to surf), but I wanted to know if there was anything specific that's not to be missed.

Seeing Dick Dale's grave at Hollywood Forever is already high on the list by the way, gotta pay my respects.

For records, I like Amoeba Music, 6200 Hollywood Blvd. Plus, it is located on the music/entertainment section of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

For live music, check the Show Announcements thread for surf related bands. Surfin' Sundays starts in April at the Huntington Beach pier:

Here's another:

Fender Stratocaster American Pro II
Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue

John Blair was super kind and took Ivan and me out to Balboa Peninsula off Newport Beach. You can see the former site of the Rendezvous Ballroom (there is a plaque marking the spot). It's just a parking lot now but I thought it was cool to be there and make the connection. Also nearby is the site of the Del-Tone Record shop.

Edit: I originally said Balboa Island but it was actually Balboa Peninsula.

Dick Dale Surfing Walk of Fame plaque on Main Street in Huntington Beach. Located across Pacific Coast Highway from Pier Plaza, site of Surfin' Sundays.

The Gillette Mansion near the Wedge in Balboa beach,
where DD lived there later. Couple hundred yards away is the beach break known as The Wedge.

Capitol Records Building, 1750 Vine Street in Hollywood.
Very close to Amoeba Music store.
