I know this has been discussed before and I searched old threads and most of them were from 2020. I'm hoping anyone that's owned either or both for the last 4 years could chime in here.
I'm about to make the investment in one of these and I'm trying to decide which!
I'm leaning toward the Metal... I like the idea of true bypass and volume control.
Is there any difference in tone? I'm trying to get as close to a 6G15 sound as possible and if the Classic somehow gets closer than I'd be open to that. I'm just not sure if I want to commit to it being in my signal chain all the time (even though I know an old 6G15 would be too).
Also, how does a footswitch work with the classic? Does it have to be the Surfy Drip switch and how does all that work?
Sorry if this is an exasperating old topic but I've watched a lot of videos and read a lot of reviews and still can't decide,.. I thought why not go to the experts?

I only have the classic, so I can't comment on how it would compare with the metal, but I used one of these Fender footswitches with mine rather than a drip switch and it works just fine.

I think if you’re wanting it out of the signal, for whatever reason, I’d actually recommend the Compact. The 2 mixes with a volume control is pretty great. It also has the 3rd option: off.

Good to know about the switch. I can't figure out what the Surfy Drip does thats different, then!
All the reviews and videos I've seen lead me to believe I'd be more satisfied with the longer 4 spring pan of the Classic or Metal. Space isn't a problem, either.

As for me they sound pretty different. Classic has character, warms and some subtle coloring and Metal is cleaner and brighter. I never cared about switches cause it’s always on. Surely Classic is my choice but I also have Compact when I want to be more… compact or I play in two guitar set and need two levels of reverb for rhythm and leads.

Wow, really? I just read another review saying the opposite; Metal is supposedly warmer and Classic is brighter.
I appreciate the input but man... I really wish somewhere near me sold both so I could try them out side by side!

It doesn't have to be. You can easily use a loooper pedal to bring anything into your signal chain - or cut it out, too. I use looopers made by Saturnworks. Great quality, fun graphics.

For me Classic sounds a little darker and fuller. However you may have any of them as dark or bright as you want with tone control. The main difference is this subtle coloring, space and warmth that I guess caused by non true bypass. For me Metal is a little bit sterile and modern, but you may notice this only in a close comparison, they both give you a true reverb drip.
The best place to check them all is in June in Livorno)

You blew my mind there! I thought a looper was just to capture sound samples but this is like a little mini FX loop, so ahhh i get it! I think you might have just taken care of my concerns about the Classic!
Since this is all new to me, how would I go about hooking this up? What exactly would I need (there are a lot of choices in the link you provided!)
And after going back through some conversations about the Surfy Drip Switch, it seems as though it can kind of act like the extra volume control on the Metal or the Output knob on the Blossom Point.

Thanks for the info! Now I'm kind of leaning back towards the Classic... and oh man I wish I could go but here I am spending all my extra dough on musical equipment, haha!

All of the products are described there, including the new version of the Classic that was just released with the new SurfyPan Extra inside, making it even more different than the Metal! If you want the sound closest to an original 6g15, the Classic 3.0 is what you want.

Thank you! I have indeed watched all the videos and read all I can, but nothing beats trying something in person! But sadly there are no vendors close to me! And I know that you Surfy Industries guys are on here too, so I knew I was kind of going straight to the source.
I definitely am leaning towards the Classic at this point, will most likely purchase from your site because I'm gonna need to get one of those Surfy Bear t-shirts, too!
