you can see the leadplayer near the end of the clip. it's also great how invested he is in playing his part!

I love Luther Perkins. He played a JM as his primary guitar from about '59-62. He also played a Jaguar for a couple years, before going back to his original Esquire in the mid-60s:
Bonanza
Also, if you're interested, that Youtube video came from this DVD which covers the whole show in'59:
Johnny Cash - Town Hall Party '59
At one point on this DVD, Johnny does a pretty funny Elvis impersonation. It's on Youtube, too, but I can't seem to find it right now.

Speaking of Johnny Cash and Jazzmasters... at a recent Duo-Tones concert Gil (who plays a really nice early sixties jazzmsater) was telling me about how he was stationed in Germany. Apparently he had a band there and they opened for Johnny. Turned out that Luther was too drunk/stoned to play and Johnny was also unable to sing. Gil filled in for Luther on stage and Gil's singer sang off stage while Johnny lipped it. Gil said it didn't matter anyway because the crowd was so loud nobody could hear anything!
Gil tells the story better than that and I for one fully believed it. Amazing!

What the heck was Luther saying to Johnny? Looks like, "this sucks man, let's get out of here"

On the Bonanza clip.....it's sooo cool that Luther is playing a "surf" guitar with all that reverb. What do you think the drummer said to him during his solo?
