Perhaps silly question: is there a name for the ubiquitous downward slur chromatic thingy drenched in reverb heard in so many surf tunes?

e.g. the beginning of Pipeline?

what tune was the first use of this and by whom?

It's called a glissando. Typically heard played on violins, piano, harp, violas, etc. But, as far as I'm aware, The Chantays' record was the first time a glissando was heard played on an electric guitar.

Know that term.., I thought there might be a slang word for it too.

interesting if that was the first use. It certainly became a signature stylistic thing along with the muted bass string ostinato.

Thanks!

IIRC, the Japanese audiences used to call Don Wilson “Teke Teke Man”, Teke Teke being an onomatopoeia of a glissando.

The artist formerly known as: Synchro
