It’s missing the trusty tremolo. I recently took it off. It seemed to really dampen things. Though it was cheap as heck. The Quilter tames the Jag+surfy bear combo pretty well. Sometimes the treble can get carried away. It appears, since the EQ is very useable, things could be dialed in quick.. That or I just grab a Jazzmaster. Such dilemmas.
Quilter should bring you guys on as reps. You and Surfer Joe sold me.

How are you liking the compact?
Great little (huge) pedal from what I hear!

It’s a great reverb device. The expanded knobs and mix option help a ton in live settings. Having the two reverb mixes is an awesome design. The Squier Jag pickups seem a little sizzly in the higher frequency, especially if you push a heavy reverb sound. It took some figuring out, but the Surfybear came through. I’ll probably do a pickup upgrade to smooth things out, probably 500k pots too.

Excellent choice! Quilter and Surfy bear have been a huge game changer for surf. I run everything in stereo with the Surfy industries StereoMaker. The head cab has two of the old Surfy Bear circuits in it along with two reverb pans. Gigs are easy with two lightweight 1x15 cabs. Can play very loud without blowing anything up.

That’s a wild invention, Stratdancer! 3 heads? How does the 202 blend with the 200? Love how you managed to get it all in a Fender style cabinet. That’s a whole lotta reverb too. Massive I’d guess!

I have found that switching out pots in the squier makes a huge difference.

The 200 was a precursor to the 202 and blends very well but it's the darker of the two.

The head cab was an old Fender 200 cab and it took a lot of work to pack everything into it but it works great and has one master a/c out.

Combined 400W(?).. two 15’s. The maximum volume would be like stadium grade projection, I’m guessing. Madness!

The 202 and 15 did great last night. So very easy to jump between full on surf, 50/60s garage and rockabilly. I’d inch down the watt rating and turn the limiter off for some Link Wray inspired stuff. It did that early distortion sound pretty well. I would say the kick back legs are essential for that cabinet.

I’d guess things would get even simpler with an overdrive pedal but I prefer the pedal game remain spartan. I’d have to look at what analog pedal would deliver such tones, tweed etc

Your rig is the same thing Surfer Joe is touring with right now.

I caught some live stuff of him recently. Just phenomenal as always. Love his stuff. The surf power trios are my favorite.

Surfer Joe has a couple videos going over his amp and speakers on FB. Fun to hear his explanations.

stratdancer, your setup is loud as hell man... I love it! Have you ever cranked it to play 400 watts? I also have two 1x15 cabs, I put one on each side of the stage. Are you using those incredible Quilter/Eminece light weight, 300 watt, 4 Ohm speakers? They are hands down the best speaker I have ever played through. Feel free to PM me if I am hijacking.

It's also here - https://reverb.com/item/77981542-1961-fender-showman which gives you lots of buyer protection.

They don't mention the iron. If it has all three original transformers, then it's a super deal! I find it very odd that they don't show the chassis - THAT is something I'd insist on. Makes me wonder if there are any original components in there...

You can use acetate to get off the black paint (I think)! If you got this one, you'd have a 6g14 and a 6g14-A, which is a setup I love. I use the 6g14 for dry, and the 6g14-A for wet.

Daniel Deathtide

DeathTide, you have a very good memory. Thanks for pointing me to reverb. If I end up buying it, I’ll make sure to buy it from Reverb. That’s exactly what I want, 6G14 on one side of the stage, 6G14-A on the other side. Loud as hell with both cranked to 10!

I haven't gone to 11 yet. 70 watts is about the peak I go to. Occasionally we will do an outside gig without sound reinforcement, and I'll push it to 60 or 70. I can run my EV SRO cab and push 200 watts but the small cabs include one D-130 so I try not to push that one really hard. The other small cab is the new Quilter speaker Lorenzo is now using as a D-130 replacement. That speaker is pure gold. I think it can do 400 watts if I'm not mistaken. I have never divided the speakers on either side of the stage but would like to at some point.

Can’t go wrong with amp talk. I hope you find a Showman!
