I did a search on this one and could find anything
Anyone know of any info on this Stratocaster that Bob Spickard is holding. It has Robert August Surf Boards on it. Fender Custom Shop, other builder? It's really cool. Reminds me of the old days of surfing with a wood board.

Cool, thanks for the reply. I might have to build one of these!

Yes, it’s a Fender Custom Shop built guitar. It was presented to Bob a number of years before Covid and it became his pride and joy. He sat in with my band at Don the Beachcomber’s and played the guitar. He guardedly let me play is as well… I asked Bob about it and he said there were only a few made…

Craig, thank you so much for the insight. It reminds me of my early days and I’m in flatland Texas now. Miss my longboard surfing days
at Dana-point many years ago and retired now. Still love to build a guitar like this. Maybe a Hobie since that’s the brand board I surfed on. It almost brings tears to my eyes since I’m an old fart now. I have many years of building guitars, and this may be the one.

Go for it…build a Hobie Strat like Bob’s and upload the pics so we can follow along. Mel did this a while back with a Mosrite build and it was fun to follow.

Thanks for the support, I’m going to talk to my buddy Jim at Musikraft (owner) and see what he can build for me as far as the body. He has built for myself some amazing bodies and necks. I’ve got some sick crazy flame maple necks from him in the past and one piece bodies. I’ll keep you up to date on the progress. Boy, as I write this, I do miss Surfing. Even the Coors Cold Water Classic in Santa Cruz.

When I was living in Huntington Beach, Bob was my neighbor. Sat in his garage a few times and watched him play it. Very nice guitar and in mint condition. He told me all about the guitar. Unfortunately I do not remember any of the details.

Apparently it was a gift from the Newport Beach American Legion:
