Permalink The biggest Surfmusic collection: Books, DVD´s

New Topic

Unfortunately our surf music friend Knuth Strelow died a few weeks ago in the age of 79. He lived in Berlin. I knew him from 2000 on.
I help the daughter with the stuff from Knuth.
Now here I have got maybe the biggest surf music collection, in books and DVD´s.
Who is interested to get the whole package?
What can be the price for it? ...I don´t know to be honest.
Mega rare stuff here for surf music fans.
All in best condition!

Best would be to pick up the stuff here in Berlin of course, but shipping can be made possible.

What do you think?

Really curious about the 'story of the Astronauts'. Ralf any chance you can digitize that one? Or at least the surf relevant sections?

UPDATE: never mind it's on Youtube

Always sad to hear stuff like this, but... WOW!!!!! What an insane collection. I gotta ask - where are the records?! With a collection of books and DVDs like that, I could imagine a collection of thousands of pieces of vinyl.

That's impressive. I must say that as I age, I'm pretty sure nobody will want my collection. I don't have 1000 cd,s, lps, books and vinyl but I know many do. I think it's a shame we don't have an online museum for all of this.

I know Knuth since the mids 1970s and it was me who did infect him with the surf music. He sold his instrumental collection (Ventures, Duane Eddy, Shadows etc) and concentrated to find and buy surf records.
Maybe my collection is a little bigger than his as I did forwarded many of the dvd´s and helped him to buy the books from America and Australia.
Here is a chance for every sincere surf music collector to find and buy items otherwise very difficult to find. by the way, Knuth´s daughter was just learning how to walk when I met her once in the mid 1970s, unfortunately the marriage broke not too long after that and he didn´t have much contact to her or her mother. Knuth was very ill and I am glad that I could talk to him three or four times in December. The last call ended him saying to me: "the doctor is coming in, I have to finish right now." I believe he didn´t hear my answer anymore. On December 26th 2023 he did pass away. Knuth was the man with whom I had talked the most times and the longest time in my life. RIP! Ruediger

My condoleances.
I'd buy two to three books max...
Let me know if she is into it.
Cheers, Andy

For the daring... and lusty!

I suggest you enroll in an eBay platform and sell in lots and prepare to ship.
The size of items is easier to ship that way and you will reach a wide range of potential buyers.

Yes, very sad...
The CD´s (about 700) are sold to a friend in Hamburg. So they are in good hands.
Also the vinyls will go in good hands. The vinyls are going as a heritage to a friend. I will bring the hundreds of vinyls to this friend soon.

Twang cheers!

Very good update. Thank you, Ralf.

I would be interested in buying a few of the books, but if the goal is to sell the whole lot at once, the easiest way may be to contact Eddy Luca (https://surfinsbackagain.shop/contact/) or maybe Mike from Green Cookie, who both have online shops with a focus on surf music.

The DVDs will likely be a problem: Most of them are bootlegs, which means selling them is a legal problem. Consequently, official shops probably won't take them.

My condolences to the friends and family of Knuth!

Los Apollos - cinematic surf music trio (Berlin)
"Postcards from the Scrapyard" Vol. 1, 2 & 3 NOW available on various platforms!
"Chaos at the Lobster Lounge" available as LP and download on Surf Cookie Records!

Some of the dvd are downloads from Youtube which I had done for myself. As it became too much I had asked Knuth if he wants them (he neither had a computer nor could he speak English). So I did send them to him asking just for postage.
Some of the concerts were filmed by myself or friends of mine. They weren´t sold anywhere, just give aways to friends.

It is hard to sell bootlegs! I have a nice cache of some awesome punk 7" boots and there is just no place to sell them.

Sorry to hear of your friends passing. Amazing collection of surf music items.

If you decide to sell individual items and ship, i'd be interested in multiple books and magazines.

Is any of this stuff still available?
Thx Guy
