Man that's beautiful, and honestly not that bad of a price considering the insane market these days.

My understanding is that the 6g14-A circuit was used in 1961, so I thought only the 1960s Shoman's have the 6g14? I'm probably wrong, but every '61 Showman I've looked at was a 6g14-A.

There was a '61 Showman head recently on Ebay for $1800 or so. It was painted black. It was a 6g14-A.

I have a single 15 1961 Showman. If this stays too long I may sell my Danocaster P Bass which is about the same value. Hoping someone scoops it before I do something stupid.

I feel like I remember that too, but couldn't find it on Ebay sold listings. There's also this one that I feel like was bought and relisted for more. If I thought I could scrape the paint off I'd shoot him an offer.

I think it’s a 63… look at the serial number and the handle. I asked the guy to look at the transformer codes and they all said 63… yet there it is still be advertised as a 61…

I should probably know this by now… do the ohms really matter that much tone wise? I know back in these early days Fender didn’t always mark/designate the ohms for these heads - which is why you have some unmarked blonde “dual showmans” - but is this really a factor for anything? I’ve never really looked at my 6G14-A Showman to see the ohms on it. It’s a single 15 tone ring. But I have another tone ring. Wondering if it matters / will sound better/worse with the extra cab.

45268 is 4 Ohms for 4x5881. The Schumacher 125C1A choke with code 606119 (last digit is a little fuzzy) is a '61, used for Twins, Showmans, Bassmans, and so on. Chassis # 00356 should be '61.

What black one are you talking about? The one in the OP's link is a brown panel, rough white tolex Showman. Actually, it's a "Double" Showman, but that designation didn't appear on the faceplace that early. "Dual" came later.

Tonally, somewhat. Some people like them matched, some prefer them over or under loaded.

However, I prefer to run my speaker loads matched. Fenders were designed to handle a certain amount of mismatch, run as intended - that is, not cranked. The point of these amps was to get a lot of clean volume. However, mismatching impedances tends to produce excess flyback voltage at the output transformer. Not necessarily a big issue when run lightly. But pushing the amp hard can strain the OT anyway, and mismatched can aggravate that even more.
