That MIJ Jazzmaster I recently got came with a gig bag. I gotta say, it's actually a pretty cheap bag with not much protection. I replaced it with a standard Fender ATA case, but this morning I realized I have a problem!
Not enough stickers!! I took the time to clean off the case with rubbing alcohol (you have to with these cases or stickers may not stick right) only to discover I only had a few stickers left in my stash. I even broke one of my self-imposed rules by putting a motorcycle sticker on a guitar case, just to fill up a little space.
What is a guitarist to do?? [sobs] OK just kidding!
It brought to mind two things: 1) Do y'all do this too (sticker your cases, I mean)? I do it partially to help prevent me from giving in to the urge to put stickers on the actual guitars, which I did as a teenager because I always seemed to have crappy guitars that needed a little help, aesthetics-wise; and 2) Where to find fun surf or even just guitar-related stickers? Some vendors will send them, Otitis & Double Crown do as well, but I can't exactly put 72 Rattlesnake, Otitis & DC stickers on one case.
OH THE STICKERMANITY!

Chiba,
Stickers on a guitar or a guitar case are something a kid does - not a (presumably) grown man. Then there's the idiocy of actually painting a person's name or band's name on a guitar case. That just makes it harder for the next owner who most likely would like it better if it were not there.
All my humble opinion, of course.

Tqi,
I trust we can politely disagree. No need on anyone's part to worry. And FYI - I had a great day.
Objectively, I looked over your list and really don't agree.
But I'm not worried about you nor what kind of day you might be having.

What's the point of collecting stickers if ya can't stick 'em on a guitar case?!? That's just bananas!

FWIW, I don't put stickers on cases because I tend to move guitars on now and then and usually include the hardshell cases so I prefer to keep them clean. If I was still gigging, sure, I'd probably put stickers of places I've played and of other bands I've gigged with, etc. To me, it's reminiscent of old timey travelers who acquired travel stickers on their luggage during their travels by auto, boat, train, and planes. It's all about the memories...
Every now and again, I'll be inspired (misguided or not) to put decals on guitars because it makes ME happy and like any art, people will appreciate it or not. I hit 60 last November. Long before that, though, I stopped worrying about what anyone thinks about my aesthetic choices...except maybe my wife.
I try to use decals that don't harm the finish (to save me a refin) when I decide to remove/change them out. I rarely can commit, which explains why I have no tattoos.
Bottom line - you do you! Whatever makes you happy, haters be damned.
No regerts!

Stickers on the case for sure! Only exception would be if its a vintage case in good shape or maybe a new case that came with a really nice guitar. Otherwise, aftermarket cases and old beat up cases should be plastered all over. And laptops for sure.
The best way to get stickers is to go to shows and buy the bands' stickers. I just got 2 from Messer Chups the other week at their show - with the bonus of getting to chat with Zombierella for a few minutes.

Haha! First off, Jonathan Betram P. Moserite jr. (I bet none of you knew his full name!) is the site's curmudgeon, misanthrope, and general sharer-of-uneeded-and-weirdly-critical-opinions. I've learned to ignore him, unless he's in a rare mood of clarity and decides to share his epic guitar knowledge.
Anyhow back to the point - in my book stickers are a-okay on ANYTHING, even vintage guitars. So of course cases are a non-issue. Acetate can easily get any sticker off and leave paint untouched, even vintage paint. I like it when people express themselves visually, and stickers are great for that. My sound carts and cases for work are covered in stickers.
I have always loved stickers. So much that I still have my collection that I started as a little kid in the 70s. I have those hilarious frog stickers from the American Lung Associate saying "Don't Smoke" that I got from my mom's work. I love surfboard stickers, or "decals" as they say in the industry. I put them on my car and a couple of strats. Do a search for "HIC stickers" or "Local Motion surf stickers" or something and you'll see what I'm talking about. Gorgeous flowers of all colors, turtles, wahines and kanes, surfboards, fish, Hawaiian flags, etc.
In fact my bro - I can send you stickers if you want? If you are interested, we can facetime or something and I can go through the collections and you can pick ones you like. In my annual visits home to Hawaii I always would stop and surf shops and get surfboard stickers. I have a ton and I'd get a kick if you wanted some.

Well Deathtide,
1. You got my name wrong. You might want to explore working a bit harder on your humor.
2. I learned long ago to ignore you also. So, - a commonality I guess we both share.
3. I just finished taking someone's childish idiocy stickers off a vintage Mosrite case. So, no - with a polite thank you, I don't need any stickers. I occasionally would get them with guitar products I ordered, etc. They hit the garbage pail that day. And that's where they belong in my collection and household.
4. So - In your book, stickers are OK. Fine. In mine, they are not. Any problem there with a US citizen's personal choice you seem to have issue with and harbor some resentment?
5. As for " general sharer-of-uneeded-and-weirdly-critical-opinions". Really? And just who might you be?

I'm reminded of the woman I was talking to at SJ2023. She was telling me about the Satan's Pilgrims sticker she had on her iPad. When she went through immigration into the US, she absent mindedly put the iPad in the tray with the sticker uppermost. The security guy saw it and she said he gave her a hard time, so now she's sure to put it in the tray with the sticker down.
Just be careful what stickers you have on there if you're travelling out of the country, and would like to get back in again....!

Everybody's got an opinion, and you clearly missed that I was trying to have a little fun and solicit photos of other folks' sticker-covered cases. It would have been super easy for you to just slide on by this thread without dropping any negative vibes on it.
It's a guitar case, not a priceless relic. And if for some reason these plastic Fender ATA cases are worth big money someday, I'll have to live with the knowledge that I cost myself $50 or $100 from some dude who couldn't see the value of VINTAGE STICKERS!
Thanks to those who got what I was laying down.

Chiba,
Your first question was:
"1) Do y'all do this too (sticker your cases, I mean)?"
And I answered it - honestly, which some members of this forum seem to have a problem with.
Be well.

It’s not a guitar case, or a guitar. It’s the door to our guitar shop. Bands, beers and (guitar) brands.

Chiba,
OK - so how would you phrase that a certain action like putting stickers on a guitar, or a case is something a kid would do?
Perhaps it would be more pleasant to say "adolescent" instead of "kid"?
Or maybe, if I'm wrong, perhaps then a sticker on a $250,000.00 '59 Les Paul Standard is "cool". Now that would be a real "value-add"
Maybe that Super 400 in the vault needs a sticker? The case alone is a $500-$1,000 item. More valuable with some stickers on it? How about some "sticker statement" on an orginal, handmade D'Angelico New Yorker and case? I wonder if the unknown owner of the only Gibson Moderne out there is thinking of putting a sticker on his guitar.
If there's anything that kills a sale to me and other guitar dealers I know, it's sticker idiocy on a guitar. We just know the finish won't match when the dopey things are removed. We know the Goo-B-Gone, WD-40, hot water, and a rough sponge and elbow grease have to be employed to get this ABUSE(<<= a carefully chosen word) out of the picture to make a presentable and marketable instrument. Of course, any normal person would say, "Only an idiot would do those things to those valuable guitars." Well, that just proves idiocy is a quite dynamic, relative condition, then, doesn't it?
So - straight and forthright opinion. Anything less kind of waters down the response.
And - important caveat (again) - It's all just my humble opinion, which, in this case, is at strong variance with yours and a few others. Such is just how this planet turns. Not looking to convince anyone; Nice to expect that in return.
