I have a rule, in my guitar collection, that my guitars must either have transparent finishes, or be red. It worked great, until I bought a black Gretsch 6120 DC, which was too good of a guitar to pass up. But other’n that, it was all CAR, Fiesta Red, or at least somewhat transparent finishes. Life was good.

Then I fell in love with a Daphne Blue Squier CV ‘70s Jaguar, which stands out in my collection like a streetwalker in a nunnery. I actually ordered a replacement body for it, but decided to buy a neck and make it a fresh build, because that Squier was too good to bust up. So now I have this collection of earth tone instruments and a bright blue guitar, and it’s made me more open to other colors. If I were to buy another guitar, I’d seriously consider white. I’d prefer a May Kay translucent white finish, but those are not easy to come by so a white-on-white JM with the slightly off-with “green guard” would be my second choice.
