Matthew - yes, the Royal Aces definitely are still playing; we're fortunate to have many Denver-area gigs each year (car shows, bars, brewing companies, private parties, even golf courses!)

Good to hear. I'll check it out.
Do you have any shows coming up?

I'm curious about Shermy's custom guitars and why she decided to go that route.

Curious about anything in particular?

I'm thinking of how to ask this beyond, "Why do you use a custom guitar?"

I would like to know how they ended up recording at Greg Keelor’s studio (Blue Rodeo) with Colin Cripps producing their album (which sounds great).

How did working with Colin influence/ affect the performances and recording in general?

Rev

Good questions. Added.

Did they record there only on their LP or the EPs too?

Matthew -we're in what we like to call our winter break, after a busy gig year, but we'll get back into action Feb. 23 at the great Englewood Tavern, from 6 to 9 pm. Thanks for asking!

Makes sense.

I think only their album, but not certain.

Thanks. I saw on Discogs that Colin worked on their Christmas ep. Didn't see any info about the recording studio though.

Q Thinking back to when you first were getting together and rehearsing, tell us about landing your first gig.

Who hired you?
What did you get paid?
When was it?
Where did you play?
How did it come about?
How long was your setlist?

When did you realize ... hey we might be onto something here we can make this workout!

Happy Sunsets!

Why she went custom, what the specs are, why she chose them, what the process of ordering a custom guitar was like...

Project: MAYHEM by Hypersonic Secret now available!

Regarding their name: do all band members have equal voting rights when it comes to repertoire, wardrobe, etc.?

Also, can they be hired for style advice (asking for a middle-aged friend in a surf band)?

Clever. I knew there had to be a funny question regarding their name.

Had they heard the California band Monsters From Mars version of "Toxic" before they recorded it? If so, how much did it influence their decision to cover it and any changes they made in their version?

Thank you to all who contributed.

In the hour that we spent on the phone I was able to ask almost all of the questions (in some form) that had been submitted.

We had a Zoom call, and Shermy was a lively and engaging guest. There is plenty of content from the interview for the next issue.

Thank you again for your support and input.
