Hello, friends!
Here's your chance to leave an indelible mark on the history of surf music. Help us decide which logo to use for Colorado Instrument Fanzine.
Ok, so I have a flair for the dramatic... My artist just sent some concepts and I'd like to see which image(s) resonate with you the most.
Simply comment with the number of the image you like best. Feel free to elaborate on why if you're so inclined.
Thank you for your time.

I know you are from there, but mentioning that could be confusing to some, thinking it’s only about there.

Hopefully, it won't be too misleading. I could shorten it to the initials, "CI" if I needed to.
Did any of the logos catch your eye?

They all scream 80s,
I like the wave ones,
But drop the colorado.
I love California,
But I would never call the winter surf fest or SG101 fest in summer,
The California show.

If it’s truly Coloradan, it should look like a Colorado license plate.

Number 8 is the easiest to read. I like it.

Right?! My early concept had the "C" from the Colorado state flag. It gave me a chuckle but I wondered if it were too cliche.

The Colorado State Flag is one of my favorite designs. That would be a good starting point. I’ve always loved Colorado license plates, as well.

It is an impressive design for a flag.
This is the concept I came up with (as a non-graphic designer).

One more time, then I’ll stop.
if it says Colorado, it seems like you are only covering surf bands or shows in the state.

Totally. I’d expect a lot about The Astronauts and other bands that either come through or are from Colorado to be in the “Colorado Instrumental Fanzine”
The other magazines have more general names. The Continental and Pipeline for example.
I also get that you are from Colorado and that is a really important part of what you are doing. For me though, it doesn’t matter where you’re from: if you like surf music and want to write about it then that is pretty cool.

7b. I like the idea of a Coloradocentric surf zine.

Fair enough. It wasn't my intention to limit the scope of zine to Colorado since there isn't much here in regards to surf music.
The initials "C.I." are from my old zine back in the 90s so I was trying to keep that connection.

Thanks, Paul! I'm hoping it will spread some awareness.
I hadn't thought of the name limiting the scope of what I'd cover. Perhaps that's the benefit of public discourse in that you get multiple perspectives to take in.
The New York Times doesn't exclusively cover news in New York. USA Today presents international news. Similarly, The Continental covers inter-continental bands.
I enjoy meeting people and asking questions so I'll cover as many bands as I can regardless of where they live

Matthew, like paul, I like design # 8 the best, and I agree with Jeff, that having Colorado in the name, is confusing, and misleading. i think people in-the-know may understand that it is not limited to Colorado, but the casual fan will think that content is limited to the Colorado scene.

This former Broomfield Boy gives it his stamp of approval. This logo is recognizable to any Coloradan. I always thought that flag must have been a very modern design, but it dates back to 1911, although the C was a lot smaller, back then. The current revision is from 1964. It’s a great logo, and, IMHO, fitting for your subject.
I lived in the Denver area for decades: Westminster, Broomfield, Englewood, Saudi Aurora, and finally back to Westminster. The place, I miss dearly, but it’s a bit more crowded these days, so I’ll probably just stay out in the Arizona boondocks.

When I think "Colorado" and "Surf", something like an inspiration of the Tulagi Club (the font of the signage or even the mural inside) would be a bit of cool nod to the Astronauts without it being an overt Astronauts dedication. Back to my snow-shoveling...

Thanks, Bob. I like 8 as well. Quite a few of them actually which is why I asked the group for help. However, nothing stands out as the clear winner.
Let me get a couple of issues under my belt. If it seems like the "Colorado" part is negatively affecting publicity (and I feel like changing it) I will try something different.

Thanks for the nod of approval. I may use it some place in the zine.
I'm a bit south of where you were in a little city named, Parker.
I used to live in Scottsdale. Only made it to Tucson a time or two when I was in college to catch a show.
