Hello friends!
In a surprise turn of events, a surf band will be playing in Denver, Colorado in mid-February. Who could be playing in Denver?
It’s none other than The Surfrajettes!
Do you have any questions you'd like me to ask them? They can be the type of question that would apply to any musician or something specific/unique to the ladies.

Yes please ask them why they don't play more in the Northeast?
I saw them billed at a pub in Fanuel Hall Boston, hardly a place for Surf.
Need to hit a beach venue, like Cape Cod's Beachcomber in Wellfleet.
Dick Dale played there.
And I live there!

Will you be at the festival in Long Beach in February?
Unfortunately not. My house-watcher neighbor moved away, and traveling has become quite expensive when I have to pay someone to come daily from over 30 miles away, so I travel rarely, these days, even though Long Beach is a hop, skip and jump away.

Any particular festivals they could play?
Many Northeast cities host 4-6 free concerts every summer. Plus, there is a big car show in Syracuse along with the State Fair (Syracuse) The Fair runs for over a week and draws thousands of visitors.
They did play by me once in Troy, NY.The show was late in the evening and the venue was not in a good area so I skipped it.
As another posted said, Cape Cod would be a great choice also.Good surf instrumental music is always welcome in the Northeast.

They make good money playing venues.
are these venues willing to pay the fee they request?
Also they don’t book their shows, they have a booking agency.

Ask them if they are aware of The Squires (original Canadian surf band from 1963) and if they’d ever consider covering any of their tunes?
Aurora and The Sultan are my favorites!

They are nice people. I had the pleasure of interviewing them for The Continental #27.
I'd like to ask them how their live show has changed since they have started doing regular, longer tours. Do they consider themselves full time musicians now?

Congrats on the new fanzine, and on interviewing the Suffrajettes, Matthew!I'm very much looking forward to the 'zine.
I really like the creative arrangements of cover songs that the Suffrajettes come up with, particularly "I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night", and "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida/Sunshine of Your Love". I'd be interested to know how they choose their covers, and how they create the arrangements. Is it a collective group effort, or is it more of an individual thing, with somebody coming up with an idea, and directing or guiding the others? I'd be interested in how they come up with their terrific originals, as well.

Thus far, I've been trying to ask bands where they get inspiration for their music. That's a fairly general question though. Is there a particular original you'd like to know how it was inspired?

I would like to know how they ended up recording at Greg Keelor’s studio (Blue Rodeo) with Colin Cripps producing their album (which sounds great).
How did working with Colin influence/ affect the performances and recording in general?

Matthew - yes, the Royal Aces definitely are still playing; we're fortunate to have many Denver-area gigs each year (car shows, bars, brewing companies, private parties, even golf courses!)
