Damn. Noel was such a good guy. Seriously. beyond being a big surf fan and a friend of this site, I don't know that I've ever met someone who was more about family than him. He took on responsibilities that would frankly, scare most people off. His family was number 1. And what a great family it is. I recall first meeting him in Durham, NC at the Instro Summit. He was excited to see Eddie K's Astronauts tribute. He helped load in and out all the 2x15" Showman heads and cabinets Eddie K brought. I'm sure he was stage hand for the entire weekend. He also brought his Texotica reverb unit, and I'm pretty sure I got to play through it. I saw him again a few years later, in the picture above. We all had dinner, then went to see The Space Cossacks at the Purple Orchid in El Segundo. I had forgotten most of that until I saw the picture Brian posted. That was a great weekend. Then he got sick. And he would keep us posted here. And for a while, it seemed to be going well. And he gave it hell. Always positive. But that MFer came back. And it took him today, of all days. I feel so bad for his family. Hey Noel - don't get your hair cut that short again. —"You can't tell where you're going if you don't know where you've been" |

My sympathies to the family and friends. For those of us who have been on this forum for a long time and I believe that's a fairly small group, it's more than a name, it's a person that you have communicated with. Knowing that he has and was suffering makes this a little better. R.I.P. Mr. Noel. |

I had the honor of first meeting Noel at the Instro Summit several times. And later would spend some quality time with him when we opened for Dick Dale in Pittsburgh a couple times. He graciously loaned me his prized Gomez Surfer amp and Texotica reverb and he even picked me up at the airport! As everyone has mentioned, he was truly a wonderful person and will be missed very much. Condolences to his family and friends. —Paul |

Rest in peace, Noel. I'm moved to hear about this without ever having actually met Noel in person. His positivity, earnestness, and love for life and people were all immense and infectious. What a testament to his character that, even as 'just' an internet friend, Noel was the type of model of friendship and sincerity that forced me to evaluate my own values and aspire to do better. What a wonderful person and dear friend. I will miss him. |
