I like it, and the switchable tone pots are an interesting touch. I love the tortoise guard against the silver sparkle.

When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar.

If you want a JM sound I'd go with actual JM pickups - not a humbucker sized version of it. JM pickups really are a singular design.

Also, routing isn't that scary. You could order a template with both the pickup & neck pocket routes. You'll know everything is in the right place. If you don't fancy DIY a local luthier or even woodworker/furniture maker can do itfor you.
