Any guitarists, keyboardists, drummers, or bassists interested in joining this surf/instrumental enthusiast and experienced gig performer in starting a surf band? I have rehearsal space here in Walkersville, MD (very close to Frederick, MD).
I'm comfortable playing lead, rhythm and bass. I prefer to focus on collaborative, original music. Of course, I'm always open to playing some really interesting covers from any era, too. I've written and performed original songs from prior projects (see attached Cloak & Stagger video). PM me if interested!

Hey Dave! I'm sure we'll figure something out for the Baltimore Roundup next year. My wife and I are heading to Nashville next week for the Gretsch Roundup there. I'm hoping I can convince some of the folks to partake in a bit of surf fun!

It was a fantastic trip. Highlights include jamming with Jody Porter of Fountains of Wayne (very nice, cool guy) and our fellow Gretsch friends, hit a lot of vintage guitar shops (Carter's, Gruhn's, Fanny's) - I had to talk myself off the ledge about purchasing a '62/'63 Fender Showman that was in pretty bad shape but the price was fairly reasonable, oh, and a certain surf afficiando happened to win the Grand Prize Giveaway, the catalog prototype of this model:

Hello
We may have talked before. I live in Frederick and am interested to see if we can work out something. I am currently in an Americana band but have always wanted to do a surf band, even an acoustic duo thing. I have a bass player that I may be able to persuade as well. I am mainly a guitar player but can play bass in a pinch. I have a mustang bass, don;t want to just play bass tho. My band right now is kind of stagnating but I am tied up with them once a week. I could maybe work out Saturday afternoons though. If you want to talk my phone is 240 674 7895.

Hey good luck with this Steve! I hope something works out. I've given up on surf in New Orleans, no one wants to play it. So now I'm doing a punk band.

Hi Rick, thanks for your interest. I was a bit surprised to see a response to a 6-year old post! I think I remember speaking with you before some years back.
I'll be honest - I've pretty much scratched the playing out itch with my last surf/punk band. I'll be 60 in November and currently a good time for me on a weekend evening is being home with my wife and pups, not some club in the DC/Baltimore/Frederick/VA area late at night. Heck, my typical going to sleep time nowadays is 10pm. Yup, I'm blissfully boring.
That said, I'm always happy to get together to play some time. I don't know of any available drummers or bassists, unfortunately. If you or someone else is proficient on lead guitar, I'm quite happy to play bass.
Although I've slowed down my content in recent years, I'm currently happy making the occasional YouTube guitar gear and surf play-along content.

Thanks, Daniel - I hope you have a great time with the punk band! I loved playing surf and punk songs with my last band.

This needs to be bumped because Surfysonic is indeed willing to play the surf again. Rick, hit him up. You can call me at 480.329.5782
I think the switching the bass duties around would be fun.

Pardon the promotion here, but just a heads up there are a couple cool surf shows this weekend in Frederick, MD
Good luck finding some musicians! Some advice, from someone who's been playing surf in this area for a long time: Be willing to travel. I know it sucks driving to practice/gigs and stuff, believe me! But if you want to find cool musicians that you can work with for a duration, you can't always expect them to be in your neighborhood. Same goes for shows. Frederick is 1.5 hours from me, but they have a really cool arts/music scene, so it's totally worth the trek!

I second everything that Skeeter said. And to pile on the self promotion (and show you that the DMV does have surf stuff going on), the Luau Cinders are doing a show in Columbia, MD on Sunday. https://www.lostarkdistilling.com/events/2ay47rbx37lagy2-jmc75-7r4lg-t3naa-xln4m-ag67x

Nice! Paul, keep posting your shows. I will make it to one of them very soon. My last show was with the Insect Surfers right before the lockdown. I need me some Atomic Mosquitos!

I live in the area (Leesburg, VA) but still generally suck despite playing for ages. But always interested in playing with others. Hope to get to some local shows soon, including the Surfrajettes, who are playing in Leesburg next month.

We're looking for a rhythm guitar player.
We're out of Annapolis and Stevensville, MD.
1/2 originals & 1/2 covers
We play Otto's in New York once or twice a year, we are actively going to seek more gigs when we can nail down a rhythm player.
We target 3-5 gigs a year. Practice a 2-3 times together before each gig. So this would be a part-time band gig most likely.
Good group of guys to play with.

Good to know there’s surf happening on the other side of the Bay. We’re hoping to move to Grasonville someday (if and when interest rates/prices shift again).

Picture me, weeping, as I learn of another surf band ISO a guitarist and I'm too far away to even audition
Y'all's music is fantastic, glad to know you're out there getting it done!
