New Topic

I’ve been a fan of Surf since Pulp Fiction ( I was 9 when it came out lol yikes!) then many years later my Girlfriend (later Wife) turned me onto a ton of first wave surf and I instantly fell in love. That was about 13 or so years ago being a hard core listener, listening nearly every day.

At certain times you could say I’m a bit obsessed with the music , but in a healthy way. It makes me happy , energetic and inspired to create.

Though lately I’ve experienced a tendency to not want to hear JUST surf…but stuff from my youth like Janes Addiction, Prodigy, Mad Season , Morphine, Led Zepplin , etc

this happens for about a month then it’s back to Surf / Instro rock 24/7 !

Does this happen to you hardcore cats as well?

Why making the same topic twice? We are already discussing this stuff in your Non Surf Love topic.

Ah! Total brain fart lol!

this post was meant to be more about “are there times you can’t stand listening to Surf?”

To answer that question; yes, there are times that I get tired of Surf, but the same could be said of Jazz, Country-Rock, Soft Rock, Blues, etc. I’ve loved Surf since it was mainstream fare, back when I was a child, but it’s not my only interest.

I recently took a 5,000 mile road trip in a rented car with a Sirius XM radio. The Sirius Surf channel is streaming only, so that was off the table, but I listened to Yacht Rock, ‘70s on 7, The Bridge, Real Jazz and Classic Vinyl. Yacht Rock really appeals to me, in great part because that was the era when I was playing a lot of gigs and keeping up on contemporary music. As much as I enjoy that channel, after a while I would tire of it and look elsewhere. We tire of things when they become repetitive, and thrive upon variety.

I keep up my Surf songs when I play guitar, but I also keep up my Jazz, Country, etc. Variety is the very spice of life.

When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar.

Thanks for the thoughtful response!

I agree that variety is the spice of life …

I’m coming out of my tired of surf phase, but as I was listening to other genres I couldn’t help but notice Surfs impact on post 64 music…especially late 70’s / early 80’s Punk and Hardcore .

Give a listen to The Doors Riders On The Storm. It’s some of the best tremolo guitar I’ve ever heard, and that was 1971.

Yeah this happens to me sometimes. But, the music of ‘MY youth’ was,,, surf music.

I take a break every now and again. I’ll switch to Psychedelic rock from the 60’s to a more modern Smooth Jazz. Even some country for a short while.
But I always return here to surf music.

Music of my youth were Soviet estrada and Italian disco. And sometimes I have this guilty pleasure.
