Permalink Look at that fine piece of Ash

Bought this swamp ash body blank from someone who used to build guitars and is now selling his leftovers. It's beautiful and has been stashed away for 10 years. A steal at 75 euro. My second Jazzmaster body is coming up...!

This is some sweet curvy ash, to be sure.

Maybe it would warrant doing the no-pickguard style build?

You could even get fancy and split the wood and flip one side to get some S-curves in there to sort of echo what's going on with the guitar controls. Like so:

Although it looks cool as-is too.

It’s a great looking piece of wood.
Is it good and dried?
How much does it weigh?

Your design had me thinking all day. But to me the pickguard really finishes the JM look. I will go for a translucent finish. Hoping to find a stain in one of the vintage colours and finish it with clear lacquer or shellac.

What software did you use to make those designs?

Thanks, yes I love it looks to be going fast while standing still. It lay on a shelf for the past 10 years. It weighs 4.4 Kg or 9.7Lbs. I guesstimate the body will be 3.5 Lbs.

This stain is pretty much the colour I had in mind! Your text to link here...

I agree with you regarding pickguards. Here's another shot with one included. Obviously this isn't a stock Fender layout and my model is missing the control plate, for some reason.

The program is Sketchup. A marvelous creation!

Cool, thanks!

Well, since I've uploaded so many already, I might as well get the color right with one last version!
