According to the Dumb Angel Magazine #4 article on Dick Dale, the clip is from a Capitol Records promo film titled "King of the Stomp", shot at the Harmony Park Ballroom in Anaheim, early 1963. — |

wow early punk/metal at its best...... I had been to Harmony Park a few times in the 80's , as it had been turned into a Antiques mall. Just 1 mile or so from my house. Jeff(bigtikidude) —Jeff(bigtikidude) |

cool clip! it's not exactly pogoing as I remember it from the late 80's but cool for sure. I wish too Jeff! quiz question, what's wrong with this clip? look at 1:20 and 2:20 —Rules to live by #314: |

great clip - I'd never seen that one before - Same music as the "Swingin' Affair" with screaming added. D.D. was a badass back then, you can just tell! The real shows back then must have really been something to see. Who says you can't dance to Surf? —"You can't tell where you're going if you don't know where you've been" |

The Clip at 1:20 shows him playing on the wrong strings as what is heard. I dunno about 2:20 unless you mean use that as a reference. Jeff(bigtikidude) —Jeff(bigtikidude) |

that's fast Jeff - I included 2:20 because it's inconsistent with 1:20 - even someone who doesnt know DD plays upside down could have picked that up. You can collect your prize tomorrow at my house. someone has been doing some editing. I wonder how that wnet? does the music belong to the footage at all? —Rules to live by #314: |

I actually noticed he was playing on the wrong part of the neck, before you mentioned it. But I wasn't going to mention it. Jeff(bigtikidude) Jeff(bigtikidude) |

The music sounds like it is the Miserlou version on "Surfers Choice" without the strings, but with screaming girls added. It's also the same as the music in the clip from the movie " A Swingin' Affair" —"You can't tell where you're going if you don't know where you've been" |

As to the "Surfer's Stomp" here is a pic from Surf Guitar featuring the Torquays, and a flyer for one of the shows, date unknown: In 1963 when the video clip was aparently made, I was 13 and living in Pasadena. I also wish I could roll back the clock and see some of the original DD shows. I kick myself for missed opportunities. Goob |

I don't know, the dress code of the kids doesn't look like the 70's. No long hairs, hippies or mini skirts, and the guys are wearing slacks, short sleeved dress shirts with white tee-shirts and button down collars--hair trimmed tight over their ears. That's what I remember from junior high in So. Cal. in the early 60's. By 1968, I was suspended from H.S. when I let my hair touch my shirt collar, and the "in" style for girls was straight long hair, mini-skirts and knee-high boots. The Beatles were getting into their pychaedelic stage, and surf music was not the thing. goob |
