Maybe it's my imagination, but I believe I can hear a slight difference between two Strats with similar pickups, where the only major difference between the two guitars is one has its bridge pickup reverse-angled.
To me, the B and high E sound a little smoother on the reverse-angled guitar, with the low E a little crisper. It's a fairly subtle difference, but I dig it enough that I'm thinking about converting at least my primary backup Strat to this config as well.
I know the Dick Dale and Jimi Hendrix Strats have reverse-angled bridge pickups in them, owing to those players' legacy of playing right-handed guitar flipped over, so maybe in my mind I'm just making up the sonic difference owing to knowing their guitars were like this.
Anybody else doing this? Hear the difference? Or am I just crazy?

I was messing around with a pickup while a guitar was plugged in the other week. When I flipped it one way it was dead silent, the other way there was a slight hum. I didn't notice a difference in tone, but I can absolutely believe it exists. Try it!

This is one thing I'm sure does make enough of a difference that you can hear it. Pickup placement between bridge and neck has a big impact on the tone, and reversing the angle on the bridge pickup changes the location of the poles for the highest and lowest strings enough to be significant. The change for the middle poles would be minor.
I think if you changed between angled vs. straight orientation for the bridge pickup, it might be harder to notice a difference.

My takeaway so far is this: I might be weird or experiencing a placebo effect, but I'm not crazy ;) Thanks gang!

Mine is reversed, and I like the way it looks. As for sound, I couldn't tell you if it makes a difference of not.

It's my opinion that when Leo tilted that pickup, it was only to keep it aligned with his imagined arc of the player's strum, which is described by that bridge pickup through all the knobs. I don't think he was doing it for tonal reasons so much for consistency in the sound level--keeping the pole pieces directly under where the pick was to be sweeping across.
No one tell Stanley Jordan about this.
