The SG101 Convention raffle thread had me looking up the sponsor Austin Micsand their tube reverb. Anyone tried one of these? Has the SurfyBear made tube reverb completely obsolete? The Austin Mics Summer Reverb pedal looks pretty great too. I did a little searching and was surprised to not see more mention here. So, anyone have experiences? I'm now thinking about building a ribbon mic kit, just because maybe I don't already have enough hobbies and kipple littering my workbenches.

My question was more about why hasn’t there been more discussions about this option. Seems pretty affordable compared to a Gomez and even some of the reissue fenders are getting more than a grand. This maker sponsors sg101, and cohosts surf music podcasts, so I was surprised to see that I couldn’t find more discussion about their gear.

I don't think I'll be answering your question about why the tube reverb option isn't discussed more here, either. The SurfyBear is available in Europe so a lot more people have the opportunity to try it.
The tube reverb options are mostly in the US, so the market is a lot less. I think Fender realised they weren't going to sell many more units when they stopped making the reissues. There's only so many reverb units you can sell.
For what it's worth, I have three reverb units. A 6G15 i built myself, a Fender reissue, and a SurfBear I built from a kit. The homemade 6g15 gets used and talked about) the most, the SurfyBear used mostly for home practice, and the Fender just lays around basking in it's brand name.
One thing is for certain, we're lucky to have such a choice.
