I’m considering getting a new Gretsch , but am afraid of the Broadtron pickups being too muddy and dark…
Several people on the Gretsch forum highly recommend Guitar Fetish Surf 90 pickups….
Anyone on here have any experience with them?
Thoughts?

My daughter has a gretsch with them and they are not too muddy at least on the amps we use. They are different for sure but I would prob want something different for surf personally.

I'm a big fan of SGF Surf 90's, I have them in my Gretsch Electromatic, my MIJ Fender tele with bigsby and even in my Special Player Fender Jaguar.
My main guitar is my Tele wich really shines on high volumes, but they clean up nice with my volume button. For the price you can't go wrong! Highly recomended!
Oh and they take pedals really well! My Surfy Bear is so drippy with these picks, more even than my 1965 Jazzmaster!

I've had a set in a 5120 hollowbody for about ten years now. They're a decent budget pickup option although sometimes seem a little sterile to me. I think a lot of the complaints about the budget Gretsch buckers were aimed at the earlier versions like mine.
I think Samurai has/had one of the new semi hollowbody's. I'd see what other members think of the stock pickups before getting ready to replace them.
Hollowbody and semi hollowbody's are a PITA to replace electronics and mine is the only guitar I have that I've paid someone else to do it.

I have a Surf 90 in one of my semi-hollowbody guitars. It has a Surf 90 in the bridge and a GFS P90 in the neck (ala Eddie Cochran). I really dig both of the GFS pups.

I've put a set in my 2622t and I absolutely love them. They've made an already great guitar even better.
