No problem, Bango_Rilla. We are looking forward to opening for you guys when you come to Memphis!

MooreLoud.com - A tribute to Dick Dale. New EP Louder Than Life available on bandcamp and website.

A lot of places are there to make money, but a band is usually an extra and not the main drawing card. As far as limiting my band to porch music jams, playing at friends' parties, and benefit shows, that's for amateurs, people trying to develop chops and jamming bands.

There are a lot of reasons people play out and not all are monetary. Many of us know original bands don't get paid anywhere unless they have a following. With that in mind, I can't just sit around and wait for a club owner to offer my original band real money. We need to get out and play, push our music and build a fan base. That can't be done on the porch.

So I think that although there are professional musicians out there seeking gigs, we can't just all agree to defer to them. Yes, bands should get paid, but since the 90's very few (my experience only) that weren't cover bands, tribute bands or had a following didn't. That may not be true everywhere, just my experience. When I played in the Beach Boys tribute band, we were making hefty cash, playing the same crap every show, booked at clubs, car shows, beach events, stadiums, etc. There is no way some smaller band, playing originals or offering to take less was going to take our gigs. Two different levels.

So maybe I'm off point, and I will admit I'm a bit jaded towards the whole club/gig scene after seeing the bands that get paid. I can't play in a tribute band ever again; and I love Beach Boys' music!!

Sorry, just blowing off steam. I am enjoying everyone's opinions, reading them and trying to see each person' point of view. Just want to play out and stop working today. Confused

We've just played a gig at a small local festival and got paid £300 (GBP) for a 45 minute set.
