Permalink Clam Shack in Premier Guitar magazine!

New Topic

Holy Moly, I made it into Premier Guitar magazine - they selected my Alameda Clam Shack as the Reader Guitar of the Month for the August issue!

Clam Shack!!!

That is very fine...congrats from Denver's Royal Aces.

Mel, congratulations on this fine piece of exposure for the Clam Shack!

I see that you are making a version of your pickup for bass guitar. Why not be a mensch and go the whole way and just make a Clam Shack bass! Although I primarily play a Precision (big surprise there huh!), I'm always looking for alternative sounds.

Patrick

Thanks Guys!
Padraig, a Clam Shack bass would be fun, but it would be a lot like a Jazz Bass but with different pickups and a different headstock. It's on my list, but not first priority. I've got more Clam Shacks underway and I've got a semi-solid guitar in the works. After that, probably a Clam Shack baritone, then maybe a bass.

FWIW, I'm winding my first set of proper designed for bass Off Kiltertrons this weekend; I'll be putting one in a Jazz Bass which I'll have at the SG101 festival to try out. I thought about doing a P-bass first, but I came across a better deal on a J-bass.

Mel, very sound reasoning. There is a much greater demand for guitars, both regular and baritone, in surf music, than for bass guitars.

After you put the bass Off Kiltertron pickup in the J-bass, I hope you will do an audio demo so we can hear the variety of tones available.

that's the plan!

Very cool, Mel. Great bio, BTW. I’ve always said that of all the Jewish Surf Music bands, MBP is the clear-cut winner.

I love what you’re doing with Off-Kiltertrons, and the Clam Shack is the first fresh idea I’ve seen in a while.

That’s really cool! Would love to try this guitar for sure.

I know what the guitar is. I mean, what is it named after?

To the best of my knowledge, Clam Shacks are a type of Seafood restaurant. Just a bit of beach culture.

Yes! Clam shacks (and crab shacks) are common in New England where I misspent some of my youth.
