Permalink Surf Books?

New Topic

Hello all,
I'm new here - quick intro - 47yr old guitarist, multiple genre interests but love Surf music. Have become a bit obsessed lately.

Any recommendations for books about Surf instrumentals? I've read Kent Crowley's Surf Beat.

I'd love a copy of Pop Surf Culture, and a copy of Bob Dalley's Surfin' Guitars - both seem out of print and/or super-expensive to me in the UK.

I've just ordered/downloaded a pdf of Stephen McParland's Dick Dale biog.

Are there any other surf books out there?

Cheers,
Richard

Dalley's book is available from Amazon here:

My own "Southern California Surf Music, 1960-1966" is available here:

Surf music adjacent books worth checking out:

"Hollywood Eden" by Joel Selvin
"The Birth of Loud" by Ian S. Port (especially Chapt.25)

Hi John,
Thanks for your reply

Hey SurfAgeDaydream, welcome to SG101! Why don't you do a "New Member" post and tell us more about yourself. You'll find the "New Member" page in "The Shallow End."

Patrick

Hi,
I'm not sure what happened to the rest of my reply (damn phone!) but what I'd tried to add was that those are great suggestions John, many thanks, I'll definitely check them out.

Also, I've got, read and thoroughly enjoyed your "Southern California Surf Music, 1960-1966" book - dug out last night and will doubtless re-read it. I forgot to include it in my original post, sorry!

Thanks again, Richard
