Cool

The Surfy Industries SurfyFuzz is officially released! We had a lot of pre-orders, so there aren't many left. Get them while you can!

I don't know if I'm chasing a ghost, or I just don't know what I'm doing. OK, I freely admit I don't know what I'm doing. So I hope someone can help me out. These are my Fuzz pedals.

My original reliable Ennio Trilogy Good, Bad and Ugly fuzz and my Ed Sanner by Hallmark FUZZ BLENDER.

Here's my dilemma. I'm chasing the exact guitar sound of "Frank's Theme" in "Once Upon a Time in the West" we hear as Frank approaches the boy after murdering his family and the camera slowly pans around Henry Fonda to reveal his face. It's probably the most iconic fuzz guitar sound in all of Spaghetti Westerns. And I can't recreate it with any of my guitars using either fuzz pedal. Does anyone have an idea what I'm missing or doing wrong? Surely between my Gretsch, Jaguar, Jazzmaster, or Stratocaster and one of my fuzz pedals that blistering sound has to be in there. I'm open to any ideas, including buying one more fuzz pedal if that's what's required. Thank you!

I am using Morricone fuzz and it sounds pretty close with Gretsch and heavy reverb. Maybe will try to make a video.

Thank you very much! I appreciate it. It'll be nice to hear a spaghetti western fuzz demo in which the guitarist is actually playing spaghetti western music for a change.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

I will try to make it a bit later, also have Spaghetti Western fuzz for comparison, so it may be interesting.

The SurfyFuzz in action, debuting at the Surfer Joe Summer Festival with Garrett of Satan's Pilgrims playing "Psycle Pswami"! These are almost gone just one day after it's release!

I know this is the SurfyFuzz thread, but I made a video testing both the SurfyFuzz and the Angry Hornet. This is not a shootout or A/B test. The boxes are both excellent and very different. You know you need both of them!

Mel replied:
Great video! If I may be a bit pedantic, the high gain Angry Hornet is the Extremely Angry Hornet. It's a mix of two circuits, a Vox Treble Booster and a Maestro FZ-1b (4 transistor version). The tone switches are one per circuit - the Treble Booster tone on the left, the Fuzz tone on the right. The pedal is 100% fuzz when fully clockwise, and 100% treble booster fully counter-clockwise. So the treble booster tone does nothing when at 100% fuzz, and vice versa. That being said, I think I need a SurfyFuzz too!

I love my Surfy Fuzz! Not just for surf and retro. Trust me!

Having been hit this summer with one of our dogs needing 2 knee surgeries (she's doing great now) and our central AC giving up the ghost forcing us to buy a new one, my gear funds have been pretty tight and I was unable to get a SurfyFuzz in the first run.

We're past all of that now and I found a used SurfyFuzz (still paid full price) in excellent condition. I received it today, fired it up, and man-oh-man - what an awesome fuzz (both US & Japan octave).

Of course, I immediately started playing one of my fave Satan's Pilgrims songs, "Chestnut Trees and Bumblebees" - great surfy fuzz goodness.

Side note to Satan Pilgrims' Ted & Garrett: I'd love to see you guys play "Chestnut Trees and Bumblebees" live! Also, I really enjoyed your sets via YouTube at the Surfer Joe Festival and SG101 Con this summer. If you all ever play a show in the DC/MD/VA area, I'll be there! Cool
