Phrygian - back on topic - my suggestion is that you just bring the speed down to where you can handle it, practice it until it's perfect, and then very gradually speed it up - again, never speeding up until it's perfect at the speed you're at.

And IMHO, ultra speed is somewhat over-rated, especially if it's sloppy. A lot of great music has what I think of as "the illusion of speed" - in other words, the execution and especially the feel is so great that it seems faster than it actually is.

Chicken Tractor Deluxe - hardcore Americana - Facebook and Website
The Telegrassers - semi-electric bluegrass/Americana - Facebook

JoJo,
I also looked further at your last response to me. You listed tunes from the first few Ventures albums to "support" your argument. That is totally understandable as the Ventures were just getting started as recording artists. They and their musical management knew that they had to write some catchy original guitar tunes. And Golly Gee, they did. Whether your listing of the first few albums was intentional or not, (it's kind of a selective "slant" to your argument), you might consult your Ventures album library a bit further - maybe starting with "The Ventures in Space". You will see that the Ventures were good for four or five original tunes on that album as well as several succeeding ones.

This response is not posted to change your mind as I believe your opinion, right, wrong, or indifferent is set in cement - "Just saying".

I have been practicing this way for nearly 30 years, ever since I bought a metronome.
