Im starting a modern surf/surf punk band

More harder heaver tunes

Styles
Modern Dick Dale
Man or Astro Man?
Daikaiju
Surf Coasters
Agent Orange

BIg loud and fast

Trying to build a setlist
Send some band and song ideas please

Great idea! Pretty niche, which is good. JFA did a couple classic surf covers, including Miserlou! The Queers have a few cool instros too.

If you can find a copy of the 2 Ramonentures albums released by Blood Red Records, they would be great inspiration. Ramones done in the style of the Ventures

A song I've been working on lately: Surfin' Mozart by The Mr. T Experience. It's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik done surf punk style.

Nice one! There are also 13 Crimson Ghosts who have made a whole album doing Surf covers of the Misfits:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eOPns8S6XQ&list=PLk0VMkPelnDZXXNHOT9G4_B28em_lwtRC

Some of the loud stuff I have enjoyed playing myself:

Hawaii Samurai - The shape of things to come
The Mummies - The fly
13 Crimson Ghosts - 20 eyes
Ghastly Ones - Ghastly stomp
Dick Dale - Shredded heat
The All Nighters - Escape from the nuthouse
The Treble Spankers - Dilmohammed
Man Or Astroman - A mouthful of exhaust / Spheric waves / Interstellar hardrive / Intoxica / Time bomb

... and with the proper sound/energy you can make almost any classic song sound big and loud, like MoAM and others did. Good luck with the new band!!

The Waterboarders started off like that.

SOme songs to consider:

Just about anything by Link Wray. Not fast, but more effective than you'd think.

Holiday in Cambodia - there are a few surf versions. Mullet Monster Mafia versions is my favourite.

Surf Party, Rumble at Waikiki, Bombura by the Surfaris, Nitro by Dick Dale. California Sun kinda works, so does American Idiot.

Holiday in Cambodia for sure. Dead Kennedys have long been one of my favorite hard core punk bands, and they say they started out playing surf music (in some manifestation of that set of musicians). You can totally see that coming through in a number of their songs, and it's probably one of the reasons I like them so much.

Another DK fan here. Their Surf roots show in their guitarist's sound.

IMO you can punk up pretty much any surf song - pick a fast one and add fuzz Smile
