I'd like to see them make something like Marshall's Origin line - small, affordable heads with a consistent sound (rather than the BB - this one's a Vox, this one's a Marshall, this one's a Fender..).

All abusing starved-plate for fun and profit, and I want it to have an oversized output transformer for my showmanny goodness.

Oh yes, a low wattage Fender head that actually sounds like a Fender would be awesome too!
Like a 5-20 Watts head - maybe single channel - the in between of a Princeton and a Pro Reverb. With Spring Reverb and Tremolo.

I recently played a one-off amp, that was basically along these lines. Think a Princeton Reverb that sounds like a Deluxe or Pro. Man, but that was sweet. It had reverb, but no tremolo.

My favorite amp is a Winfield Tremor, which is basically a refinement of the ‘62 Princeton. My particular example has a pair of Blackplate RCA 6V6s, and has an incredible sonic character. I’ve played a lot of Surf on it, and it sounds great for that, and just about anything else I care to play. Mic’ it, and it sounds as hardy as a Showman. It has great bias-varying tremolo, but unfortunately, no built-in reverb.

I recall that Fender made a DRRI head. I thought that would sound neat with a 4x10 cabinet, like a lower wattage super reverb

If you put a 0.022 mFd cap in the midrange, it would probably sound just like a Super.

There is a 6G6-b Bassman Clone in Germany right now that „screams“ favorite Surf Amp… but I got questions…
First: how good are these clones (US parts, Mercury transformers, Red Astron capacitors,….) - I never found kits for them online (wanted to build one a few years back - but in the EU you only get blackface and tweed kits)
the faceplate is a nice Brownface (replica?) one, but it says Fender (I‘d change the grille-cloth from the current blonde to Oxblood to match my cabs).

what would you pay for such an amp (EU prices)

I had a 6G6-b Clone for a while, it was a great amp. I don‘t know what kind of transformers and caps and stuff it was made of, but it had great punch, sufficient headroom and when driven hard a cool vintage overdrive.
Considered the current price of mercury transformers the clone you mentioned is not overpriced, but still no bargain. I got mine years ago for about half of the money, but it was a community thing inside the tube-town forum. If you are interested in building a clone yourself, you don’t have to stick with a kit, you can pick the components yourself and build it from scratch. If you want to discuss this more in detail, feel free to contact me via pm.

see you at monokinibeach

I doublechecked the 6G6-b that you mentioned, the seller seems to be the same person who bought my 6G6-b, so it is very probable that it is the amp I once owned.

see you at monokinibeach

I never had a chance to own top surfer amps like Showman, Bandmaster, Super Reverb, Twin Reverb or whatever but I just love this little beast. Surely head over of Blues Junior that I head before at least for me.

Damn fine set up!

What model is the Harley Benton cabinet and how is it holding up?

I’m seriously considering this exact set up for my new amplifier

is this rig good for live performances? If not what set up do you like for gigs?

sorry for all the questions….

thanks!

That’s a Harley Benton G112 Celestion V30 and I like it. However I am not a big Speaker Snob and mostly cannot hear much difference in them)
This Quilter is really nice, unfortunately I have no band and gigs since I left Ukraine so couldn’t yet test it live. But I am 100% sure it will be ok for gigs, a lot of people use it this way. I use it a lot for home recording together with Palmer Eins tube head and really happy with them. My new EP is completely recorded with Quilter Superblock.

This has been my surf rig. Not classic Fender cleans but just a big and powerful clean that can easily move air. With a 2x12 cab it can easily rival a 1x15 in the low end

Nice work!

Thanks! I’ve tried to use only real amp and pedals for guitar sound and mostly like the result.

Great sound. That reverb drip is world class.

thanks for the replies … Smile

sorry for yet another noob question, but what does the Palmer Eins do? I’m brand new to recording and I’m still becoming familiar with all the basic gear… I have the Focusrite Solo , some Sony Studio Monitors , an SM57 mic and a MacBook Pro… I hope to start recording this summer!

My main amp has been the Rumble 100 which actually works great for guitar because it’s super clean , but I’m intrigued by the QuilterUS power block because of its Fender amps emulator
